Rasor Jim

05/19/2020 - 09:30 , by TKing09

When someone would ask Jim Rasor how he was doing, he replied, "l woke up this morning so it's a good day. And if I don't wake up tomorrow morning, it's going to be a better day because I know where I'm going". Well, Sunday May the 17th was a better day for Jim Rasor, because he's not laboring hard to breathe with cancer filled lungs and he has the use of his arms and legs without the numerous strokes he had in the last 2 weeks. It is a better day indeed.

Jim was born to loving parents Jesse and Lila Rasor in Texarkana, TX, moved all around North Texas landing in Lubbock, where he graduated from high school and joined the Army. After being discharged from the Army he entered Texas Tech in Lubbock, graduated with a business degree in 1969, but not before meeting the love of his life, Linda Barnhart at Texas Tech and marrying in January of 1967. Jim’s new father-in-law offered him a job at Barney’s Studio in San Angelo where they started raising their family and in March of 1974, their son Wayne was born to start the Rasor legacy. Jim moved to a career in insurance sales while continuing to take photos at weddings for many years.

After short stints in Dallas and Austin with insurance companies, they landed back in San Angelo where he became heavily involved in the San Angelo community. Jim was part of organizing the barbershop chapter of the Twin Mountain Tonesmen and enjoyed singing with them for many years. One of the highlights for Jim was a 3-day children’s camp sponsored by the West Texas Rehabilitation Center at Lake Nasworthy where he maintained the property and prepared for hundreds of kids for 30+ years. After 25 years of involvement at College Hills Christian Church as an Elder, Youth Sponsor and Sunday School Teacher, they moved their membership to First Methodist Church to attend church with Jim’s dear friend and Mother-in-Law Loleta Barnhart. At First Methodist, he was very active in the Journey Sunday School Class, Neighbors Cafe Cooking Team, and Do-Dads. During these years, he was active in the Walk to Emmaus and served as a Chrysalis Lay Director.

Jim was not bashful about his faith and friendship with Jesus and as a result would invite total strangers to his Friday Morning Men’s Bible Study Group where he met with these caring Christian men for over 35 years and he loved them all dearly. When Wayne married Brenda in 1995, Jim gained the daughter he never had and was blessed with his first granddaughter, Merissa, who along with her husband Jaie, just blessed Jim with his first great granddaughter, Arabella. Jace and Rhiannon complete the current family circle for a total of 3 grandchildren and gave him lots to talk about as future law enforcement, paramedic/firefighter. The last week of Jim’s life he was surrounded by special friends and family including his brother John Rasor, Laura, Austin, and Kimberly Gillis, Barbara and Joe Rallo and Shelley and Joe Boyd.

If Jim could describe the 78 years of his life in one word, it would be “blessed”.

A Memorial service will be held 11:00am, Saturday, May 23, 2020 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Scott Bradford officiating.

Dunlap Daniel

05/19/2020 - 09:17 , by TKing09

Daniel Andrew Dunlap, age 79 died peacefully at home in Big Lake, Texas on May 18, 2020

Private family graveside services to celebrate his life will be held in the Terry County Cemetery in Brownfield, Texas.

Daniel was born July 25, 1940, in Littlefield, Texas to Andrew and Jamie Murrell Dunlap. For many years the family lived 9 miles North of Brownfield on their cotton farm.

Daniel had a heart of gold, but he could be a bit of a ring tailed tooter too! He loved to gamble and was known for his talent at playing pool and cards. You just couldn’t beat him.

He stayed close to family throughout his entire life. Daniel was an introverted man, but if he let you into his heart, what a blessing it was! He was resilient and determined, even when doctors told him he had just a year to live, he took that as a challenge and with a gleam in his eye, he bet he could outlive their predictions, and he did! He lived and died on his own terms. He was treasured by his family who will dearly miss him.

Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister Joyce Quinney.

He is survived by his brother, David Jack Dunlap, three nieces, Charletta Collins, Crystal Quinney and Michelle Watson, and several great nieces and nephews.

Bakker Dale Owen

05/15/2020 - 16:01 , by TKing09

Dale O. Bakker, 84, passed away Thursday, May 14, 2020, in San Angelo, TX.

Mr. Bakker was born November 18, 1935 to Albert C. and Dorothy Bakker in Washburn, North Dakota. Dale became a 1954 graduate of Liberty Hill High School in Ohio. While in high school, he was a part of the 1954 State Championship baseball team. This was the first championship in the school’s history. After graduation, he enlisted into the US Air Force serving for 4 years as an Air Police (AP) being discharged in San Antonio, TX. Upon discharge from the Air Force, he moved to Dallas to attend Dallas Institute of Funeral Service. Upon graduation of mortuary school, he moved to Temple, TX to work for Hewitt Funeral Home. During his 5 years in Temple, he met Sue Ann Dorn and they married on December 29, 1960. Within three years, they welcomed their first child, Jeff.

On August 15, 1963, Dale and Sue moved their young family to Eastland, TX so Dale could work for Hamner Funeral Home, that eventually became Arrington Funeral Home. They had planned to only stay in Eastland for a couple of years. However, in 1971, Dale built and began his own business, Bakker Funeral Home. After 15 years in the funeral business, Dale sold the funeral home and bought I-20 Pawn Shop and Bail Bonds. He owned and operated the pawn shop & bail bonding business for over 28 years retiring in 2014.

Dale was an avid Eastland Maverick fan. He would be found at many of the sporting events throughout the year. In 2017, Dale was given an honorary plaque on the fence at the Maverick football field. His sign commemorated 53 years he could be found in a particular spot at the fence on Friday nights to cheer on the Eastland Maverick football team. He was also a well-known Eastland Maverick basketball fan, referee or coach depending on what he felt needed to be adjusted or corrected. In fact, the Plexiglas window that looks out onto the basketball court was a joke amongst his friends that it was put in for him so he would not be thrown out of any more games.

Dale had a unique personality that made it impossible for him to never meet a stranger. Not only was he well-known in his hometown of Eastland, but also made friends far and wide throughout his life. His devotion to family, friends and the betterment of others was second to none. He will be greatly missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.

Dale was a member of First Baptist Church, Eastland, TX; Eastland Chamber of Commerce even serving as president; a 50-year member of the Eastland Masonic Lodge, and the Eastland Lions Club. Dale was a recipient of the Golden Deeds Award in 1979.

Dale was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Sue, who passed away April 1, 2013; his parents; and two brothers, John Bakker and Glen Bakker.

Survivors include his sister, Claudia Harrigan of Midlothian, VA.; his son, Jeff Bakker and wife, Reba of Decatur, TX; daughter, Jodi Sobotka and husband Jeremy of San Angelo, TX; two grandsons, Seth Bakker and fiancé, Kaitlyn VanAusdall of Lubbock, TX and Brad Bakker and wife, Lyndzey of Decatur, TX; two granddaughters, Jayci Covert and her wife, Rachel of Astoria, NY and Kinsey Mangum of Snyder, TX; four great-grandsons, Eli, Owen, Creed and Rhyder and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, May 19, 2020, at First Baptist Church in Eastland. Burial will follow at Eastland City Cemetery under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral home in San Angelo, TX.
