On December 1st, 2020, we said goodbye to a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Henry Gonzales Peña, known to many as coach Peña and brother Peña, walked through heaven’s gates and was reunited with his father, Carlos. Henry, the second child born to Carlos and Andrea Peña grew up in Ballinger, Texas with his two brothers: Lorenzo and Lloyd. He graduated from Ballinger High School and was a proud Ballinger Bearcat for life. In 1975, he married his childhood sweetheart, Ernestina De La Cruz of Winters, Texas. Together they had three children and four grandchildren, who affectionately call him Welo. Henry and his wife are members of Southland Baptist Church. 

Dad loved people and touched the lives of so many. Throughout his life, he was honored to have been invited into homes to pray over families, into churches to lead people to the Lord, and into classrooms to guide and teach young minds. Henry graduated from Angelo State University with a B.A. degree. He was ordained by Primera Iglesias Baptist Church and followed the Lord’s calling to Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He received his Master of Divinity in Missions in 1987. While attending seminary, he pastored several missions in Eden, Mineral Wells and Fort Worth before moving to Modesto, California to start a mission. The following year, the family moved back to San Angelo to be closer to their loved ones. He started Friendship Baptist Church in San Angelo, Texas where he served as pastor. Henry taught and coached at Edison Junior High for San Angelo Independent School District for 25 years until he retired in 2008. Shortly after retirement, he returned to work as a bus driver for both San Angelo Independent School District and Angelo State University. 

Henry is survived by his mother, Andrea Peña; his loving wife, Ernestina Peña; daughter Allison Knight and her husband Justin Knight of San Angelo, Texas; daughter, Audra Peña and Amanda Figueroa of Willis, Texas; son, Adrian Peña and his wife Cady Peña of Carbon, Texas and four grandchildren Kaya Knight, Ruby Peña, Hank Peña and Amos Peña. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Shannon Medical Center for Henry’s medical care during these trying times. We also thank his family, church family and friends for their love and support. He truly loved you all. A memorial service to honor Henry Peña is pending and will be held at a later time.

Joe David Ward Sr., our beloved Husband, Dad and Grampy went to be with Lord on December 1, 2020. Born on August 28, 1937, Joe lived a full life. He served 2 years in the US Navy, worked a lifetime as a diesel mechanic at Permian Oil and the Jim Bass Ford house, then went on to open Ward’s Truck Repair. His love for cars never stopped. He raced dirt track cars in the 60s and then started Ward Racing in 1991 when he told his son Bubba, “Jump in, the water’s fine.” Ward Racing went 21 consecutive years strong involving 3 generations and teaching them all the love of racing and family. After raising two sons, he was well prepared for his next role as Grampy and he loved his grandkids. He spent years picking them up from school in “Old Red”, taught them how to drive a standard, took them fishing and even taught the oldest how to pick up chicks at the mall.  
Joe was a gentle giant and a man of few words, when he did speak he meant it. He’s the originator of the “Ward Look,” the serious stern expression that gets us all in trouble. He was passionate and spontaneous in his years. He loved loading Barbara in the car and driving just to see where they’d end up. His smirk and sparkling blue eyes will be missed but his legacy will forever live on. 
He was preceded in death by his father, David Luke Ward; mother, Bertha Cockburn; step-father, Dan Cockburn; son Bubba Ward and sister in law, Vivian Cockburn. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Ward; son, Joe David Ward Jr. and wife Debbie; daughter in law, Terry Ward; grandson Bubba Joe Ward Sr. and wife Michaey; granddaughter Karah Bowles and husband Chet; grandson, Landon David Ward and wife Loren; granddaughter Haylee Cole and husband Garrett; 6 great-grandsons and one on the way, Bubba Joe Jr., Fletcher, Camden, Wyatt, Indie, Ellis and Stetson; brothers, Bill Ward and wife Tina, Danny Cockburn, Dennis Cockburn and wife Terri, several nieces, nephews and cousins. 
Memorial services will be held at Harper Funeral Home, Tuesday at 10:30 officiated by Danny Willis. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to West Texas Boys Ranch, American Diabetes Association or a charity of your choice.

Filled with energy and ready to take on any challenge, Anita May Phillips Monk was cherished by family, friends and hundreds of students that she taught over her 31-year career. Born 1/14/36 she was the second of five daughters of Hiram M. and Delma Bishop Phillips. As a third generation San Angeloan, she was proud of her heritage and active in the community. She passed away Sunday morning, November 29, 2020. 

A strong work ethic was forged as a child working for her parents at San Angelo's Sheep and Goat Raiser Magazine, owned by her father, where he served as editor / publisher, and her mother, the circulation manager. 

Music was her passion with voice as her focus. She was in school and church choirs throughout her formal education and toured with the Baptist Student Choir district representative to state competitions. She also served as the choir representative to the Rainbow Girls division of Eastern Star.  
With a scholarship in voice, Anita attended Sul Ross University. It was there that she met Sherman Wayne Monk. They married on New Year's Eve 1956 and she began her teaching career a few months later in Odessa, TX. 
The couple lived in Midland while Sherman was a manager at The Core Laboratories, Inc., then moved to Lubbock where he pursued a masters in geology at Texas Tech. They then moved to Pecos where Anita taught Social Studies and Sherman managed Batjer Claims Service. It was there that they bought a small Cessna airplane and learned to fly. Anita became a member of the Pecos Flying Housewives. 
In 1966 family and friends were happy to welcome the Monks back to San Angelo following Sherman's career move into catastrophe insurance adjusting. Anita then immediately joined her alma mater, Central High School, where many of her own teachers were now her contemporaries. She taught sociology and history for more than 20 years.  

Anita made a significant difference in many students' lives with her caring manner, adventurous spirit and progressive teaching style. She was recognized for exceptional contributions associated with several accredited courses in Social Studies that she developed, including "America in the Nuclear Age", "Foreign Policy in the 20th Century", and "Ethnic Studies". The latter was created after a summer of study at the University of Texas, Austin, under a National Endowment for the Humanities scholarship. She also encouraged modernization of the local school system during her tenure and is credited with changes to the teachers dress code (following a mini-skirt standoff with the Administration). 
Anita took her students on many field trips to further their experiences in Texas history and sociology. She expanded these travels to include student tours of Europe throughout the 1980s until her retirement in 1991. 

Anita's desire to travel and experience new sites and people was pursued every year until her health slowed her down. Her favorite memories included scuba diving in Belize and Florida, hiking with family throughout Indonesia and Costa Rica, and taking grandchildren on trips to Europe and the Southwest. She and her husband traveled throughout the US, Asia, Mexico and the Caribbean. She also enjoyed overseeing the cow-calf operation on the ranch outside of Mertzon, TX. 

Following retirement, Anita served as a board member, officer and volunteer for numerous civic organizations. Among the most important to her were the San Angelo Symphony and Angelo State University’s West Texas Collection, which includes a collection of first edition Texas literature donated by her family. These two organizations reflected her lifetime love of music and history. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the San Angelo Symphony and the West Texas Collection at Angelo State University. 

Anita is survived by her husband, Sherman, her children, David Monk, and wife Kelly Monk, and Tracie Monk, and her husband Dan Westrick, and four grandchildren Zachary and Nathaniel Westrick and Riley and Tessa Monk, and sisters Deborah McCullough and Jane White.

John Risch Grant was born August 16, 1945 in Baytown, Texas to Lorene and Dean Grant. He was a busy, inquisitive young man as he raised fishing and shrimping along the coast with his father and developing his lifelong love of outdoor sports. He grew up and went to school in Channelview, Texas, where he met the love of his life, Karen Haney, while hanging out with her brothers. Marrying in August of 1965, the lovebirds would soon be separated due to the call of the Navy and the raging Vietnam War. John served a deployment in the Gulf of Tonkin on the USS Bennington and remained a proud veteran his entire life as he loved his country immensely. 
Upon his return from war and honorable discharge, the couple settled in Highlands, Texas, where they welcomed their daughter, Kristina Maria in 1972 and their son, Brannon Dean in 1974. John worked for US Steel for a number of years, but when the steel industry declined he sought greener pastures under the big West Texas sky in San Angelo. He started in construction, eventually, built homes under his own name, then worked for Lowe’s in management for many years before retiring. 
John kept busy with numerous hobbies and loving the relationships he cultivated in the process. He was an avid bow hunter, black belt in Kung Fu, wood worker, a really amazing cook and pie baker, but more than anything he prized bass fishing and being on the water in his boat. 
Of all the spectacular things in John’s life the one relationship that even out shown his love for Karen, was his love of Jesus Christ. John was asked to go on a Walk to Emmaus which proved to be a pivotal moment in his life. John’s renewed passion and love of God not only changed him deeply, filling him with peace, but it lit a fire to love people and share the Good News that warmed those that came into his path. He was a living testament to the fact that Christ cannot not only save you, but transform every part of you because from that moment on John walked with a servant’s heart. John joyfully served in prison ministry, his men’s bible group at his beloved church, The Life Church where he cherished greeting everyone, and he assisted on Walks to Emmaus. 
John adored his family, grandsons and the true love of he and Karen’s life: Abigail Grant, their adorable Shih Tzu, that went everywhere in the truck with him and rode in the shopping basket at Lowe’s on a regular basis. 
John leaves behind a legacy of boundless love in the form of his beautiful wife of 55 years, Karen, their daughter, Kristi Leeper of Midand, son, Brannon, daughter in law, Sujin along with grandsons, Baxter and Ronin of San Angelo. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lorene and Dean Grant and brother Michael, where we know they are rejoicing with Christ. We will miss his giant bear hugs, hearty laughter, the twinkle in his eye and seeing him love Karen more deeply with every passing day. A private family burial will be held on December 3rd at Lawnhaven with a memorial to follow at a later date due to current health concern circumstances. 
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that gifts be made to: The Life Church in San Angelo or Concho Country Emmaus Community. Heartfelt thanks for the outpour of care and kindness showered on the family and tell your people you love them.

Glendora Andros Cortez, 59, passed away Friday, December 4, 2020, in San Angelo.

Public viewing will be from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM with the Rosary being at 6:00 PM Tuesday, December 8, 2020, at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel. Mass will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday, December 9, 2020, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Joey Faylona, officiating. Burial will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home. Mask are required by request of the Family.

Mrs. Cortez was born August 31, 1961 in San Angelo where she has been a lifelong resident. Glendora was 1979 graduate of Central High School. Glendora met and married Leandro Cortez 1980. She worked at The Learning Center as the assistant director for over 25 years. Pryor to that she worked at The Original Fuentes as a server for 19 years. Glendora was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She was a very helpful and generous lady, was loved and will be missed by many. Glendora was a proud Cancer survivor.

Survivors include her husband, Leandro Cortez; three daughters, Laura Holguin and husband Abe, Deanna Cortez and fiancé Mario Fuentes, and Christina Cortez-Clatterbuck; her baby boy, James Cortez and wife Sarra; her father, Tony Andros; three sisters, Gina Andros, Ramona Garcia and husband Jesse, and Antonia Andros; three brothers, Tommy Andros and wife Rosemary, Dominick Andros, and Carlos Andros; five grandchildren, Ava, Austin, Luke, Leo, and Alex; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Glendora was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Andros.

Aguilar age 73 of San Angelo passed away on Thursday, December 3, 2020 at Shannon Medical Center.Public Viewing will be on Monday, December 7th from 9:00 AM- 8:00 PM, The rosary service will be held on Monday, December 7th at 6:00 PM at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel. The funeral mass will be on Tuesday, December 8th at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with burial to follow at Belvedere Cemetery. He worked for San Angelo Packing Company for 30 years, for Hirschfeld Steel for ten years, and most recently had celebrated his 15th year working for the City of San Angelo (Water-Distribution).He was preceded in death by both his parents, a brother, Fernando Aguilar and by his sister Felipe Gomez. Gonzalo is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Ofelia Aguilar; his four daughters, Angelica Aguilar, Emelda Aguilar, Araceli Aguilar and Maria Aguilar Soto and her husband Lee ;his two brothers, Diego Aguilar and his wife Rosa and Jesus Aguilar; five sisters, Maria Saldivar, Victoria Roman and her husband Roberto, Teresa Mascorro and her husband Elisandro, Cecilia Mascorro and her husband Beto all of San Angelo and Rosabelia Romo of Sonora, Texas; five grandchildren, Alexis, Jose, Daniel, Aryana and Annali; along with numerous nieces and nephews.The family would also like to extend their sincerest thanks and appreciation to Dr Wood and all the ICU staff for the care and tireless help given to our dad during his illness.God saw you getting tired.
