Norman Wayne Rousselot

12/21/2020 - 09:42 , by TKing09

Norman Wayne Rousselot, 90, passed from his earthly being on December 12, 2020 into heaven where he has joined his beloved wife Doris Mayer Rousselot. We will sorely miss his wonderful wit and presence, but the family is joyful for his spiritual step towards eternal life.

Norm was one of two brothers born in Los Angeles, California on November 28, 1930 to Harbin M. and Mary Rousselot. Norm grew up in the southern California area of Pasadena-San Marino where he graduated High School as one of the most highly rated high school baseball pitchers. He then went on to Principia College, Elsah, Illinois in 1950 where he met his loving wife Doris. Upon completion of college he and Doris were married in San Angelo, TX in 1953. He was drafted into the US Army and was stationed at Fort Ord in California. Prior to being drafted, Norm signed a baseball contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates who scouted him in college. Upon completion of his service, Norm worked and played baseball in the California League until he was invited to work at the T half Circle Ranch in Sonora. Ultimately, he and Doris started a long career in ranching in Sutton and Schleicher Counties.
Norm was actively involved in many civic activities. He was President of the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association and the National Wool Growers Association. One of his most cherished memories as President of the NWGA was visiting the White House to deliver President Ronald Reagan a bolt of AMERICAN grown dyed-RED wool. He had the honor of meeting several other presidents in his lifetime. He also served as board member for the American Sheep Producers Council, the Mohair Council of America and Edwards Plateau Soil and Water Conservation. Norm was Mayor of Sonora from 1970 to 1979, was active in the Lions Club and had most recently completed a sic year tenure as a Sonora City Council member. He was a life-long member of First Church of Christ Scientist, a politically active conservative and staunch Sonora Bronco fan. There are many Sonora graduates that had so much fun anxiously awaiting and watching Norm do his famous cheer for one of the football pep rallies every year. Norm loved writing and authored a children’s book, Horses and Horses. Friends and family always looked forward to his annual Christmas card poem.
Norm, who was affectionately known as “Pooh” to his grandkids, is survived by his son, Mark Roussellt and wife, Mallory of Sonora; daughter Michelle Anderson and husband Steve of San Angelo; daughter Renee Jossen and husband Barry of Los Angeles, CA; grandchildren Nicol McDuffie and husband James, Reid Rousselot, Evan Rousselot, Jordan Cotton, Ruby and Avery Jossen; and great-grandchildren Addison and Cooper McDuffie; Hendrix and Cassius Cotton; and Dylan Rousselot. The family requests that memorials be made to ASU FAME Mayer Anderson Memorial Scholarship Fund, 221 S. Irving St. San Angelo, TX 76903 or a charity of your choice.

From whence cometh the light
The light that delivereth all mankind?
It is the Star of Bethlehem;
It is the Christ – Truth,
Leading the human to the divine-
Into eternal Life, into perfection,
Into immortality
