Kristen "Kris" Gayle Hibbs Lake

10/24/2023 - 09:23 , by TKing09

Kristen “Kris” Gayle Hibbs Lake, 71, passed away at her home in San Angelo, Texas, in the early morning hours of Wednesday, October 18, 2023.

Kristen was born on September 1, 1952, in Wichita Falls, Texas, to William Ray Hibbs and Johnnye Joyce Claer Hibbs. She was the youngest of 2 children. Prior to attending elementary school, Kristen attended a fine arts kindergarten where she learned elocution, singing, and dancing. Although she described herself as a “shy child”, Kristen loved to perform on the stage and the more the audience clapped, the more encores she performed. Growing up in Wichita Falls, Texas, Kristen played the piano and was a member of the Blue Birds and the Campfire Girls. She attended Wichita Falls Rider High School where she played the flute in the band, sang in the choir, was on the debate team, and played tennis. The summer before her senior year of high school, her family moved to Snyder, Texas. Kristen graduated from Snyder Senior High School on May 26, 1970.

After graduating from high school, Kristen attended Texas Tech University. It was at Texas Tech where she met her best friend and the love of her life, Garry Lake. Kristen and Garry were married on May 20, 1972. They welcomed their first child, Melissa Dawn, on June 28, 1973. Following Garry’s graduation from Texas Tech in May 1974, the young family moved to Houston, Texas, where Garry would attend pharmacy school at the University of Houston for the next three years. While her husband was in pharmacy school, Kristen worked as a secretary for Tennessee Life Insurance Company. After her husband graduated from pharmacy school, they returned to West Texas living in Abilene and Lubbock before settling in San Angelo in the spring of 1980. On June 14, 1982, they welcomed their second child, Brian Patrick.

Kristen was very involved and played an active role in her children’s lives. She was a Brownie troop leader for Melissa’s Brownie troop; a Den Mother for Brian’s Cub Scout troop; a member of the PTA at McGill, Bowie, and Bonham Elementary Schools; served as a Room Mother for both of her children’s classes; and was Room Mother Chairman at Bonham Elementary School. She received recognition for her service on the PTA by being awarded the PTA Lifetime Membership Award. Kristen attended numerous dance recitals and civic ballet rehearsals and performances in support of her daughter as well as attending Friday night Bobcat football games to watch her daughter’s halftime performances as a member of the Tex-Ann drill team. She never missed her son’s soccer games, basketball games, baseball games, football games, nor tennis matches. Her voice could be heard a mile away above the crowd cheering her son on. Once her children had grown up, she volunteered at Christmas at Old Fort Concho. Kristen had also taught Sunday school at St. Luke’s Methodist Church and taught vacation bible school at Sierra Vista United Methodist Church. She was always curious and wanted to know more about different cultures and religions. Kristen could spend countless hours on the internet researching topics of interest.

Kristen was preceded in death by her parents, William Ray and Johnnye Joyce Hibbs; maternal grandparents, Johnnie W. Claer and Lola Corder Haynes Claer; paternal grandparents, Virgil and Zethel Hibbs; aunt, Doris Perry; and cousin, Linda Gunter. She is survived by her husband, Garry Lake of San Angelo; her daughter, Melissa Lake of San Angelo; her son, Brian Lake and wife, Julie, of Lubbock; two grandchildren: Dylan and Peyton Lake of Lubbock; a brother, William R. “Bill” Hibbs II and wife, Vickie, of Corpus Christi; many cousins, nieces, and nephews; and her precious fur baby, Bella.

It was Kristen’s wish to be cremated. A Celebration of Life service for Kristen will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at 2 PM at Harper Funeral Home. Pastor Kyle Toomire of Sierra Vista United Methodist Church will officiate the service.

The family sends their sincere appreciation to Dr. Cornelius Chinn, Solaris Hospice, and Quality Caring Hands for their loving care and compassion for Kristen.

Coy Moses

10/24/2023 - 09:20 , by TKing09

Coy Moses was born June 30, 1935 in Veribest, Texas, the youngest of five children. He married Gwen Laxton Montgomery in November, 1973, and they had a long and happy marriage

Coy was a kind, generous man who loved being in the company of others, whether playing is fiddle for dancers, playing golf at the country club, or eating lunch every day with his friends that he called 'the boys."

As a career GTE employee, Coy and his fiddle caught the eye of the company president who made Coy and his band an entertainment fixture for GTE conferences and functions across the state. Music was the driving force in Coy's life (other than Gwen when she decided it was time for him to mow their lawn); for many years, he and his band were Saturday night regulars at the VFW and appeared monthly at the San Angelo Senior Center. Many have 'danced across Texas' to Coy's western swing. Always generous, Coy has been known to give one of his fiddle to someone wanting to learn to play.

Last, but not least, Coy loved corny jokes. His eyes would sparkle, a silly grin would cover his face as he told the joke; then he would drop his chin to his chest and roll his eyes up to see the reaction his joke received. Ever the entertainer!

Coy Moses was a truly good man who will be remembered lovingly by family and friends.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2023 @ 11:00 AM at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.

Iris Roberts Bradley

10/16/2023 - 10:24 , by TKing09

On October 11, 2023, surrounded by loved ones, Iris Roberts Bradley, 84, of Sonora, Texas, peacefully entered her eternal home, where she will experience everlasting joy in the presence of our Lord.

Iris was born to Alpha and Thomas Roberts in Newnan, Georgia on March 8, 1939. She spent her formative years in Macon, Georgia and graduated from Mercer University in 1961 with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology. Iris married the love of her life, Colonel Peter W. Bradley at Robbins Air Force Base in Georgia on October 2, 1965. Mother to Rodney and Dawn, she was a gifted and talented warrior Army spouse, often filling the role of both mom and dad due to frequent deployments of her husband, moving her family 17 times during his career. Iris was fearless and never ceased to amaze her family, traveling to various places across the world by herself, with her children or with her friends on shopping trips. One trip had her walking across communist Checkpoint Charlie in Berlin, by herself, during the cold war to meet her shopping buddy on the other side because she didn’t have the proper security clearance to pass in the vehicle.

While Iris liked to call herself a “domestic engineer,” she stayed home to raise her children until they were older, when she started working in the counselor’s office at the high school they attended to be near them. She was a loving mother, teaching her children the morals and values she was raised with. She brought cupcakes for every birthday and attended countless horse shows, speech meets, and football games to support them both.

Iris and Pete moved to Sonora, Texas in 2005 so they could share in the lives and joys of their precious granddaughters, Lane and Carson, attending everything and anything the girls were involved in. The girls were Iris’ pride and joy. She taught them to bake, sew, garden, craft, and most importantly, to love one another.  She would always quote Ephesians 4:32 to the girls; “And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.” Some of her favorite traditions she shared with the girls included making a “bunny cake” every Easter and working on Operation Christmas Child boxes each Christmas. Not only was she “Mema” to them, but to many.

Iris was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, rarely missing a Sunday. She was in the choir and led the Operation Christmas Child project, which makes perfect sense as it involves some of her favorite things: shopping, Christmas and being kind to others. She always went above and beyond to host the most special, intimate Christmas dinner, often inviting those who did not have a place to spend the holidays. You could always count on opening Christmas crackers, wearing the crown, taking turns telling the corny jokes and taking a group picture after a delicious meal, at a beautifully set table each Christmas Eve.

She loved baking, sewing, shopping, traveling, crafting, and looked for any excuse to host a party. Southern hospitality at its finest, Iris loved hosting bridge parties, birthday parties, holiday dinners, and any get-together that got her favorite people under one roof. Bridge parties, with their unique themes, were one of her favorites, often shopping for next year’s party as soon as the current year’s party was over. She would regularly invite the neighborhood to view her collection of more than 300 Nativity scenes from all over the world.

Iris was a shining example of Christian virtues, embodying the teachings of love and kindness toward everyone she knew. Not a single person that knew her would fail to describe her this way. Her genuine sweet nature and kindness will be so deeply missed. She was a true Southern belle, with grace, hospitality, and impeccable manners, never speaking a harsh word about anyone. She had the heart and soul of an angel.

Iris is predeceased by her mother, Alpha Eugenia Holland Roberts, father Thomas Bell Roberts, and brother, Morris Edward Roberts. She is survived by her husband, Colonel Peter William Bradley, son, Rodney (and Kim) Bradley of Louisville, Kentucky, daughter Dawn (and Chacho) Cahill of Sonora, Texas and granddaughters Lane and Carson Cahill of Sonora, Texas.

Friends and family are invited to attend a celebration of life at the First United Methodist Church in Sonora, Texas on Saturday, October 21st at 2:00 pm, and/or a Mass celebrated for Iris by the Guadalupanas at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Sonora, Texas at 5:00 pm on October 21st.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the beautiful gems at the Schleicher County Nursing Home who lovingly cared for Iris during the last year and a half while she battled Parkinson’s Disease as if she was family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to the Schleicher County Nursing Home, Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child, or a charity of your choice.

Arrangements are by Love Funeral Home in Sonora.
