Elizabeth Frances (Duncan) Moore

01/18/2021 - 07:13 , by TKing09

Elizabeth Frances Duncan Moore, 99, passed away on January 13, 2021, just one month and two days shy of her 100th birthday.

She lived a long, productive, and interesting life starting with her birth on February 15, 1921 in Tankersley, Texas to parents Leon Polk and Minnie Frances Duncan. Elizabeth’s family included 3 brothers and 3 sisters, and they lived in Knickerbocker, Texas. When Elizabeth lost both parents as a child, her older sister, Mildred, helped continue her upbringing. Moving into San Angelo for school, Elizabeth graduated from San Angelo High School and continued with a college education in Business. In May of 1944, Elizabeth married Maj. Frank T. Moore, a bombardier in the Army Air Corp. Sadly in 1947, Frank was killed while on a military training mission when a bomb exploded under the plane. Elizabeth became a military widow and never married again.

Elizabeth was a remarkable, independent, and intelligent woman, and she worked many years in New York City for a private oil company. When she retired, she moved to Houston and continued consulting for the company. In the early 1970’s Elizabeth moved to Dallas where she lived for 40 plus years. In 2018 she moved to Washington D.C. near a niece due to health reasons. Elizabeth came back to San Angelo to attend a wedding in August 2019 and remained there until her death.

Elizabeth never had children but was always a doting favorite aunt to 7 nieces and nephews who will love and cherish her memory, Mildred Frances Hart of Chama, New Mexico, James Moore and wife Oldsmat of Florida, Annette Moore of Weaterford, Texas, Dolly Madison McKenna and husband John of Washington D.C., C. Sandford Gibbs and wife Jennifer of Buda, Texas, Gregory D. Gibbs of Austin, Texas, and Debra C. Mundell and husband Jim of San Angelo, Texas.

Elizabeth was also a great-aunt to 12 grand-nieces and nephews, Steven, Susan, Arlene, Chris, Laura, Blake, Carolyn, Jay, Duncan, Clay, Seth and Emily and a great-grand aunt to 17 great-grand nieces and nephews. She did not get to meet the 2 babies born in 2020 or the one born in 2021 due to COVID restrictions, but she would have loved them.

Elizabeth traveled to many places in her life, including Europe, Asia, Holland, U.S., and her last trip, a cruise on the Danube in Austria. Her favorite pastimes over the years were reading, long talks, doing her own taxes, reading the daily Wall Street Journal, tending to her plants, driving to look at the Texas bluebonnets, visiting all the nieces and nephews, and helping her sisters and brothers.

Elizabeth, “Aunty Libby”, “Aunt B”, is now whole again in body and mind, joining her husband, sisters, brothers, parents, and one niece in heaven. What a happy reunion.

Elizabeth will be on a waiting list to be buried beside her husband in Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia where a graveside service will be held. May God bless you, Elizabeth, in your final heavenly journey. You are finally home.

Thank you to the staff and nurses at The Springs and with St. Gabriel’s Hospice for taking good care of our dear aunt.

Romans 8:18
For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the
glory that is to be revealed to us.
