Margaret "Maggie" Pearce Francks

Margaret (Maggie) Francks was born on April 20, 1923 at Fife, Texas to Mary Finlay Pearce and Robert Luther Pearce. She is a second-generation descendant of Robert Kay Finlay, an early Scottish settler in McCullough County. Her grandmother was responsible for naming the community of Fife after her home in Fifeshire, Scotland. 
Maggie attended elementary school at Fife, Texas and high school at Lohn, Texas, where she was valedictorian of her 1940 graduation class. She played a snare drum for the pep squad at football game performances and was elected Lohn High School Queen her senior year. She attended John Tarleton Junior College in Stephenville, Texas for 2 years. While attending Tarleton, she was secretary-treasurer of her Sophmore Class and cadet sponsor of Company D. At that time, Tarleton was a military Jr. College. She was a member of the Tejas Club, Aggettes, Girls Chorus and played alto saxophone in the band. She received her B. S. degree in Homemaking at Texas State Women’s University (Denton, TX). After graduation from Texas Women’s University in January,1944, she taught homemaking at San Saba High School for 2 ½ years. She then married Captain James (Jimmy) H. Francks, a member of the U. S. Dental Corps, on June 9, 1946. They resided in Brady, Texas for 15 years before moving to San Angelo, Texas in 1961, where he specialized in Orthodontics. He preceded her in death on August 30, 1993.  
While her children were young, she served as Sunday School teacher, 4-H leader, Den Mother and Girl Scout leader. She was an active member of The First Presbyterian Church of San Angelo, serving as President of The Women of the Church and numerous committees. She was elected an elder of The First Presbyterian Church in 1995. In 2015, she was honored for having been a member of the San Angelo First Presbyterian Church for over 50 years.  
She served as president of San Angelo Dental Auxiliary, president of The 48 Club and was an active member of The Stitchery Group, participating in their annual showings. She played tennis in the “Over 65 yr.” age Tennis League and participated in The Emmaus Bible Study for a number of years. 
She is survived by one daughter, Pam Jones-Wyatt (James Robert Wyatt) of Fredericksburg, Texas and a daughter-in-law, Lori Williams Francks of San Angelo, Texas. She loved spending time with and was extremely fond of her 6 grandchildren, J.S. Hall, Jeremy Hall, Jessica Hall, Kevin Reese, Fawn Reese and Timothy Reese and 7 great-grandchildren, Renae Hall, Nikolas Hall, Ella Hall, Alex Reese, Kyle Reese, Hunter Reese, Sylis Bolen and Zaiden Bolen. She is also survived by numerous Fife Finlay descendents. 
She was preceded in death by her son, Dr. James Barry (J. B.) Francks in 2009, her daughter, Patricia M. Francks in 2011, her husband, Dr. J. H. (Jimmy) Francks in 1993 and her grandson, Shane Reese, in 2015. 
Enormous appreciation is extended to the wonderful ladies of “Maggie’s Angels”, her amazing companion sitters over the years. 
Visitation will be held from 5:00-6:00pm, on Wednesday, January 20, 2021, at Harper Funeral Home. Graveside service will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at Fife Cemetery in Fife, Texas. 
The family would appreciate contributions in her memory being made to the Boys and Girls Club of San Angelo or the charity of your choice.
