SAN ANGELO, TX - This afternoon, Sgt. Justin Baker with the Department of Public Safety (DPS) released more details on yesterday's deadly crash involving a young mother and her two children.
Yesterday evening, LIVE! reported on the death of one of those children, a 1-year-old girl who died from her injuries at Shannon Medical Center (see our original story here).
In a new report today, Biddle explained how, at 2:05 p.m., emergency responders dispatched to the crash on US 67, about 9 miles east of San Angelo.
He said the driver, Mayra A. Lora, 20, of San Angelo, was traveling north on US 67 in a 2008 Ford F-150 when, for an unknown reason, she went into the center median onto the southbound lanes of US 67. Lora then traveled back onto the northbound lanes and the pickup rolled over numerous times until it came to rest facing south in the east barrow ditch of US 67.
Lora suffered minor injuries and wore her seat belt; however, her 3-year-old son and 1-year-old daughter were not properly secured in their child safety seats. As stated previously, they ejected from the vehicle. DPS noted that the 3-year-old suffered non-incapacitating injuries.
The posted speed limit in the area is 75 miles per hour, and the weather was dry and clear at the time of the crash.
DPS Trooper Jaron Yarbrough of San Angelo investigated the crash, and he was assisted by Troopers Billy Pierce, Dustin Henderson, and Eric Young of San Angelo. DPS was also assisted by the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office and the Quail Volunteer Fire Department.
Sgt. Biddle added that a preliminary crash report will be available for purchase online in 10 days here.
