Traffic on FM 2288, about one mile north of the Arden Road intersection is at a standstill this morning after a crash involving two pickups resulted in two fatalities. The crash happened at 7 a.m. Tuesday.
According to the Texas DPS, a silver Ford pickup was southbound on FM 2288 when for an unknown reason, the driver crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a white Chevrolet pickup.

There were a total of two souls, both drivers, killed in the crash. The driver of the Ford died at the scene. The driver of the Chevy was transported to Shannon Medical Center with incapacitating injuries but died at the hospital, DPS confirmed.
DPS said that the roadway was dry and skies clear. The speed limit along this stretch of highway was 60 mph and very winding. The crash happened in a curve in the roadway.

Along with Texas DPS, the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Department, Grape Creek Volunteer Fire Department, and the San Angelo Fire Department and EMS tended to the scene.
Tom Green County Justice of the Peace Pct. 2 Judge J.P. McGuire pronounced the driver for the Ford dead at the scene. Next-of-kin was notified and was present.

DPS has released the names of the victims.
