Present and Former Central Students Killed in Tuesday Morning Crash

Two San Angelo teens, one a senior Central saxophone player and the other a former Central student, were killed in a two-vehicle car crash on FM 2288 this morning at 7:13 a.m.

According to the preliminary crash report issued by the TxDPS, 17-year-old Noah Daniel Whitaker was traveling south on 2288 in his 1999 Ford F-150 when 19-year-old Cesar Armando Castillo was headed north on the same road in his 1999 Chevy Silverado. Whitaker's Ford crossed the center stripe and struck Castillo’s vehicle head on.

Both boys were pronounced dead at the scene by Tom Green County Justice of the Peace J.P. McGuire. Whitaker, a current Central student, was wearing his seatbelt when the crash occurred, according to the report. Castillo was not wearing his seatbelt.

Next of kin have been notified in both cases.

The crash is being investigated by Texas Highway Patrol Trooper John Hoy, of Bronte. Trooper Dustin Henderson, Trooper Gabriel Lanes, Sergeant Tim Marlatt, and the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Department assisted.

The original story read that the Chevy crossed the line into the oncoming traffic. It was the Ford. The story was corrected.

The San Angelo Independent School District issued the following statement regarding Whitaker's death this morning:

"It is with great sadness that SAISD extends deepest sympathy to the families of Noah Whitaker, a senior at Central High School, and Cesar Castillo, a 2015 graduate of Central High School, who lost their lives in a traffic accident earlier today."
