The project to bring the city’s mascot to Lincoln began last year according to Lincoln history teacher Amy Lewallen. The school’s honor society led other groups in raising funds for the sheep which was purchased from the Downtown San Angelo Association. There are dozens of sheep sculptures around San Angelo.
According to Lewallen, local artist Amy Lindemann painted the sheep which has Twin Buttes on one side and the Lincoln Middle School logo on the other. The names of each school organization is listed on the lower legs of the sheep sculpture and there is an Indian Maiden headdress on the sheep’s head. Lindemann named the sheep ‘Brave Newe Maiden’ incorporating Lincoln’s girl’s mascot, the Maidens.
The new sheep sculpture is located in front of the school 255 Lake View Heroes Dr. near the San Angelo coliseum.
