SAN ANGELO, TX— Operators in the San Angelo area received 63 permits to drill new oil or gas wells in August and completed 87 new oil wells, according to Railroad Commission of Texas statistics released Sept. 9.
The San Angelo district ranked third statewide in new-well permits behind Midland and the San Antonio area. It ranked second in new oil completions, trailing only Midland’s 270. No new gas wells were completed in the San Angelo district.
Statewide, the commission issued 695 original drilling permits, including 594 for new oil or gas wells. The remainder included 76 recompletions, 15 field transfers, eight re-entries of plugged wellbores and two reclassifications.
Of those original permits, 481 were classified as oil and gas, 116 as oil, 48 as gas, 30 as injection, 18 as other and two as service.
Commission staff processed 939 oil completions, 287 gas completions and 168 injection completions across Texas during the month. New oil completions statewide totaled 470 and new gas completions 141.
The San Angelo district includes Tom Green County and surrounding counties such as Reagan, Upton, Irion, and Crockett.
