SAN ANGELO, TX — Downtown San Angelo Inc. will host a public celebration Saturday, Sept. 26, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. along 14-38 North Chadbourne Street to mark the completion of streetscape work in that block and encourage people to return to businesses that saw little foot traffic during construction.
The free event, called Back on the Block Reopening Celebration, will take place between Harris Avenue and College Avenue. Organizers said businesses along the block remained open throughout the city’s streetscape improvement project but received little pedestrian traffic while work was underway.
Activities will include business tours, a scavenger hunt with prizes, raffles, a car show, complimentary beverages while supplies last, live music, and free health and wellness sessions. Mexican food and treats will be available for purchase from Carter’s Sugar Shop and El Rancho Grande. Lonestar 92.9 will kick off the event with a live radio remote.
Good Movement will offer Pilates demonstrations and yoga classes beginning at 10 a.m., and GYM 28 will hold 28-minute workout sessions.
The celebration follows the reconstruction of sidewalks, the roadway, lighting, and other pedestrian features on the downtown corridor. A Chadbourne Street update released September 11th states that the intersection is scheduled to be completed the week of September 21st.
