Chadbourne Street Construction on Schedule; Harris Intersection Due Week of Sept. 21

SAN ANGELO, TX — Construction on downtown Chadbourne Street remains on schedule, with the Harris Avenue intersection expected to be finished the week of Sept. 21, according to a city update released Friday. 

Work at the Harris intersection began ahead of schedule Aug. 12. Blaine’s parking lot driveway is complete, as are the intersection corners, the decorative center star and the southwest sidewalk along the east side of Harris Avenue. Three of four crosswalks are finished; the east crosswalk is due next week. Curbing and remaining concrete between the curbs and sidewalk on the east side of Harris are also scheduled for completion next week. Concrete paving of the driving lanes is set to begin the week of Sept. 21. Officials said any delays will be announced. 

The Beauregard Avenue-to-Harris Avenue section has fencing in place. Street lighting is scheduled for October or the weeks immediately afterward. Turning-lane striping is expected to allow that stretch to reopen soon. 

The Harris Avenue-to-College Avenue segment is open to traffic from the north. Barricades are in place at the south-side parking-lot driveways near the Harris intersection, including a church parking lot; drivers can make a U-turn or exit through the lot if needed. Turning-lane striping will be added after the Harris intersection is finished. Parking-lot striping will come later when thermoplastic markings are installed. Street lighting for this section will go in with the next phase of work. 

At the College Avenue intersection, construction will extend from Gillis Street to about 150 feet east of the intersection and 20 to 40 feet north. Traffic will retain full access from the south up to College Avenue.
