In The Race for Conaway's Congressional Seat, 1 Candidate Dominates All Others in Campaign Cash

SAN ANGELO, TX – A San Angelo Republican is running away with the race for U.S. House of Representatives if campaign cash is any indicator in the bid to replace longtime CD-11 Representative Mike Conaway who announced he would not be seeking re-election.

While it's still early in the primary election cycle, money raised is typically a good indicator of how a candidate's campaign will perform in the primary election but not necessarily the most accurate indicator in some cases.

August Pfluger recently reported to the Federal Elections Commission that he had raised over $700,000 which is almost seven times more than his nearest GOP competitor J. Ross Lacy of Midland

Lacy reported he raised $144,336.03.

Dr. Richard Bartlett of Odessa, TX reported he raised $22,620.81 before dropping out of the race and Robert Tucker from Comanche, TX reported he raised $245.

Brandon Batch of Midland has announced he is running for Congress but has not yet filed a campaign finance report with the FEC.

San Angelo attorney John Mark Hogg is the lone democrat who has announced a run for Congressman in CD-11. Hogg has raised $9,767.05.

The following individuals have filed reports with the FEC indicating they have raised $0 for their respective GOP campaigns:

The district is composed of all of Andrews, Brown, Callahan, Coke, Coleman, Comanche, Concho, Dawson, Eastland, Ector, Glasscock, Hood, Irion, Kimble, Llano, Margin, Mason, McCulloch, Menard, Midland, Mills, Mitchell, Palo Pinto, Runnels, San Saba, Sterling and Tom Green counties and parts of Erath and Stephens counties.

The primary election will be held on March 3, 2020.  If no candidate receives over 50 percent of the ballots cast in the primary,  a runoff election will be held Tuesday, May 26, 2020.

The winner of the democrat party primary will face the GOP primary winner and any independent candidates in the general election on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2020.
