SAN ANGELO, TX — The National Weather Service in San Angelo has expanded a Severe Thunderstorm Warning to include Tom Green, Coke, Runnels, and Irion counties, with impacts expected in the San Angelo area through 9:15 p.m. Thursday.
As of 8:17 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was located near the Coke–Tom Green County line, near Water Valley, moving southeast at 30 mph. Radar indicated wind gusts up to 70 mph and quarter-size hail.
The storm is expected to reach Water Valley around 8:20 p.m., Carlsbad and Grape Creek by 8:25 p.m., and San Angelo, including O.C. Fisher Reservoir and San Angelo State Park, by 8:40 p.m. Goodfellow Air Force Base is forecast to be affected around 8:55 p.m., and Lake Nasworthy around 9 p.m.
Other locations impacted by this severe thunderstorm include the intersection of Highway 208 and Ranch Road 2662, US-87 near the Coke-Tom Green County Line, US-67 near the Irion- Tom Green County Line, and Harriet.
The National Weather Service warns of hail damage to vehicles and considerable tree damage. Wind damage is also likely to mobile homes, roofs, and outbuildings.
Residents are urged to take shelter immediately in an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.
