Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued for Tom Green County and Surrounding Areas

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for portions of Tom Green County and neighboring counties, effective until 7:15 p.m. Sunday.

At 6:25 p.m., radar indicated a severe thunderstorm located 7 miles west of the intersection of Highway 208 and Ranch Road 2662, or about 8 miles southwest of Robert Lee. The storm was moving northeast at 30 mph.

Forecasters warned of wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail up to one inch in diameter. Damage to vehicles, roofs, siding, and trees is expected.

Areas under threat from this storm include:

  • Robert Lee and E.V. Spence Reservoir near Paint Creek Recreation Area by 6:30 p.m.

  • Bronte by 6:45 p.m.

  • Blackwell and Fort Chadbourne around 7 p.m.

Additional areas potentially impacted include Oak Creek Reservoir, and the intersections of Highway 208 and Ranch Road 2662, as well as Highway 158 and Ranch Road 2059.

Residents are urged to seek shelter in an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. A Tornado Watch remains in effect for west central Texas until 10 p.m.
