SAN ANGELO, TX – The Cristin Bradley trial continued on Wednesday morning with the court learning about the internet browsing history on Bradley's cellphone in the days leading up to the death of 2-month-old Brixlee.
As previously reported over the past week and a half, starting on July 24, 2023, the trial against Bradley began to determine if she played a role in her granddaughter's death. Brixlee is accused of being killed by a heroin overdose but had other conditions, including syphilis, pneumonia, staph infection, and sepsis.
On the state's side, led by District Attorney Allison Palmer, witnesses were called to the stand. The court adjourned on Tuesday after the state called San Angelo Police Sergeant Jeremy Cannady, one of the lead detectives investigating the case. The court resumed on Wednesday morning with Defense Attorney Thomas Jackson cross-examining the detective.
The main topic was the phone that was used by Bradley and what was searched on the phone prior to Brixlee's death. The search records revealed questions like 'Why isn't my infant eating?', 'How to know if your baby is allergic to Gatorade?', and 'How to know if your infant has syphilis?" The state claims that these are alarming questions that should've been asked to a doctor.
Jackson, however, contends that these searches weren't all made by Bradley. Instead, he argues that all three people in the home - Bradley, Dustin Smock, and Destiney Harbour - had access to the phone. The defense presented evidence of 126 accounts logged into the phone on various social media platforms, including Google, Facebook, Snapchat, and more. They showed the court some of those findings.
On September 23, 2020, at 12 a.m., a search on the phone for the treatment of syphilis in a baby was made. 16 minutes later, a search for the treatment of a cut on a penis was made, and at 12:49 a.m., a search for the treatment of penile yeast infection followed. The defense believed that these searches were made by Smock, as his Google account, [email protected], was logged in at the time. It was noted that Smock's password at the time was "Heroin01".
A month later, a search for treatment for Chlamydia was made on the phone on October 25, 2020, at around 2:30 a.m. At this time, the phone was logged into Harbour's Google account.
Regarding Bradley, the defense claims that the searches she made were to help the child. Searches shown to the court included how to get an infant to eat and if it was safe to give the child Pedialyte.
Testimonies will continue throughout the day as the defense has yet to present their witnesses.
