Red Roof Inn Drug-Crazed Murder Suspect Sentenced to Prison

SAN ANGELO – More than two years after 32-year-old Gilberto Mascorro was fatally shot multiple times at the Red Roof Inn, the second defendant in the case has sentenced for his murder.

Back in July of 2019,  Danial Diaz and Jessie Robinson Jr. visited the inn to allegedly purchase "ice" or methamphetamine from the victim. The duo then entered the room where the victim was located, and Robinson shot him in the leg, chest, and cheek. Diaz and Robinson then left the scene of the crime in a vehicle driven by Jennifer Badillo.

According to court records, in exchange for a guilty plea, the 26-year-old  will be sentenced to twenty years in a TDCJ prison.  Diaz will also serve a 10-year sentence for a previous offense of Evading Arrest or Detention Causing Death.

In March of last year, Robinson, who is Diaz's brother-in-law, pleaded guilty to murder and was sentenced to 40-years in prison. Badillo was released from prison on a personal recognizance bond. At this time a trial or pre-hearing has been scheduled in connection to the case since January of this year.
