Meth Head Sentenced to Prison for Murder During a Drug Deal

SAN ANGELO, TX – A suspect in the murder of 32-year-old Gilbert Mascorro pleaded guilty to a murder charge Tuesday afternoon. Jessie Wayne Robinson Jr., 28, sentenced to 40 years in prison for shooting Mascorro during a drug deal gone bad. San Angelo Live originally reported the murder back in July of 2019. 

According to police, officers found Mascorro dead inside a motel room with multiple gunshot wounds. In an affidavit obtained by San Angelo Live, Jennifer Badillo stated she drove Robinson and Daniel Diaz to the Red Roof Inn to purchase “ice” (meth) from the deceased. She claimed Robinson told her that he had shot the victim in the leg, chest, and face once they returned to the vehicle. She told police she heard multiple pops after the two men entered the room.

Robinson’s father, Jessie Sr. told authorities that his son told him that he and another guy went to San Angelo to buy methamphetamine, but that the deal had gone bad. He stated his son only wanted to buy “ice” and that Robinson shot the victim when Mascorro rose to get his firearm.

Robinson was arrested in Abilene and remained at the Tom Green County Jail on a $500,000 bond. In addition to the sentence of 40 years in prison, Robinson must pay back $10,100 in restitution. He will be credited with 239 days for time served.

Diaz, who is Robinson’s brother-in-law, was present at the time of the shooting. According to the affidavit, Diaz and Robinson both entered the deceased’s room before the murder occurred. Diaz was charged with murder and he remains incarcerated at the Tom Green County Jail. He is currently awaiting a trial date.

Badillo, who was the getaway driver, was charged with murder and released on a personal recognizance bond. According to court documents she is awaiting trial as well.
