TABC: Wrong Way Driver Didn't Come from Local Bar

SAN ANGELO, TX – Operators of the San Angelo nightlife can sleep a little easier Friday after TABC has announced that the driver who caused a fatal wrong way crash did not come from a bar.

In the early morning on December 15, officers with the San Angelo Police Department received a call about a vehicle that was driving the wrong way on the Houston Harte Expressway. Moments later, another call came in alerting officers what they were approaching. Here is the story: 2 Dead in Horrific Fiery Crash on San Angelo's Houston Harte Expressway

“It was so loud I jumped out of bed in our hotel room and looked out the window,” said San Angelo visitors who stayed across the street at the Microtel Inn. “Within 5 minutes, police arrived and within 10 minutes firefighters arrived. But the crash was so bad there was literally nothing anyone could have done to save them.”

Police identified the two the following day as 21-year-old Ulises Frausto and 17-year-old Arianna Martinez. Neither survived the crash.

Although an autopsy has yet to be released, a lot of speculation around how the crash actually occurred has been swarming. Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission Public Information Officer Chris Porter confirmed that on December 17 a preliminary investigation was opened up to see if Frausto came from any drinking establishment.

"During that investigation we spoke with the San Angelo Police Department," said Porter. "They indicated the suspect in the collision did not visit a TABC licensed location prior to the accident." Here's more eyewitness statements: Eyewitness Accounts Emerge of Fiery Scene Immediately After Fatal Head-on Crash on San Angelo’s Houston Harte Expressway

TABC investigators have now moved on from the investigation since their authority only extends to licensed locations such as bars or clubs.

"We did not proceed with our investigation following that." concluded Porter.
