2 Dead in Horrific Fiery Crash on San Angelo's Houston Harte Expressway

SAN ANGELO, TX — Police learned of a head-on, high speed crash on the Houston Harte Expressway near Furniture Row at 3 a.m. Sunday morning. Upon arrival, Sgt. Cade Solsbery described a grisly crash scene. “One of the two vehicles in the crash was fully engulfed in flames,” he said.

On the pavement where cars and trucks are usually traversing at the 65 mph speed limit, two bodies are stretched out, under white sheets awaiting a coroner. The father of one of the dead is there, visibly shaken.

Sgt. Solsbery said there was two found dead at the scene, one from each car.

He said moments prior to the crash, police were responding to a call about a reckless driver traveling the wrong way, east in the westbound lanes, of the expressway. Solsbery said police didn’t have enough time to respond before the head-on crash occurred. Solsbery did not say if drugs or alcohol were involved.

The identities of the dead are pending the notification of families. Solsbery said more information would be released as soon as it is available.

This is terrible to see. Probably someone drunk. Praying for their family.
Watching the video posted by David you can hear what sounds like young kids in the backseat
Why are they awake and why would you have them witness such terrible scene.

This is so sad....prayers to all involved. I just called 911 about 1 week ago to report this same thing while I was heading to work at 10 pm, close to the same location. Very scary.

Everyday we make decisions either good or bad. The point is everything has consequences. Everyone thinks death is the enemy but in reality it's part of life. Only the Lord knows why souls are taken young. We have no right to judge others. Nothing in this world can prevent us from death.. when it's your time it's your time. Accidents happen daily and yes good people can cause accidents to. I've been in one and it was an elderly lady. She didn't mean to hurt me in any way and I forgive her. Accidents happen we cannot prevent death.

Accidents do happen to everyone, it is not a matter of a person's morality or kind heart, that is what makes it an accident. Accidents are considered to be non-preventable because the actions leading up to and right before are not recognized. This was not an accident, this was a choice, made by someone who was not thinking past their own convenience. Instead of paying for an uber, taxi, or relinquishing his keys and picking up his vehicle the next day, he chose to drive himself home. He made a choice to drink beyond his limit, a choice to drive, a choice to be irresponsible for his actions that night. It was as if he literally said, "Consequences be damned, I am getting drunk and driving myself home. Let's see how it goes." If he had been sober and never had driven in San Angelo, missed the do not enter sign on the ramp causing him to go the wrong way, that would be an accident. This death was absolutely preventable.
