SAPD Officials Release Details on More Noteworthy Arrests

SAN ANGELO, TX – As stated in our previous article this morning (click here), 51 people made their way to the Tom Green County Jail in the past 48 hours.

Officer Tracy Gonzalez, public information officer for the San Angelo Police Department, provided more details on some of the more noteworthy arrests.

On the evening of Sept. 12, James Curtis Bauerlein, 64, was arrested for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Disorderly Conduct—Abusive Language.

Gonzalez said just before 5:00 p.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of 45th and Oaklawn in reference to a fight occurring in the street.

“Upon arrival in the area, officers did not locate an active altercation,” explained Gonzalez. “Officers soon learned the suspect fled towards 45th Street and Travis.  Officers eventually located the victim and the alleged suspect.”

Gonzalez said officials identified the suspect as Bauerlein, and, during the investigation, they learned Bauerlein had exited his truck carrying a wooden stick and walked up to a 29-year-old woman. He pushed her before attempting to strike her with the stick.

“When Officers took Bauerlein into custody, he began yelling profanities and racial slurs,” said Gonzalez. “Bauerlein did this in public with children nearby.”

Bauerlein was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Disorderly Conduct Abusive Language and transported to jail.

His bond is set at $20,392, and he has a court fine of $196. This is Bauerlein’s 10th arrest in Tom Green County.

In another incident on Sept. 13, just before 1:00 a.m., officers responded to the 3000 block of Oxford Ave for the report of a hit-and-run crash. When police arrived and investigated the incident, they determined the suspect vehicle, a white Dodge truck, hit a parked gray Lincoln Navigator and continued to drive without leaving information.

“The suspect vehicle was located, disabled, approximately 250 yards southeast from the point of impact,” said Gonzalez. “The driver was identified as Ja Vanna Lynn Tonn.”

Tonn, 31, was arrested on suspicion of Driving While Intoxicated and transported to the Tom Green County Jail.

Thus far, the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office reported three confirmed arrests in the recent string of vehicle burglaries and thefts (see here).

On Sept. 13, at around 2:24 p.m., SAPD also arrested Joseph Enriquez, 33, for Burglary of a Vehicle.

Gonzalez said officers responded to the area of E. Avenue A and S. Oakes for the report of a burglary of a motor vehicle. Officials located Enriquez nearby.

“Police recovered the stolen property, which included tools and lawn equipment,” said Gonzalez. “Enriquez was charged with Burglary of a Vehicle and transported to the Tom Green County Jail. The property was released to the victim.”
