The Curious Appearance of A Nissan Altima Sunken into the Concho River

SAN ANGELO, TX — San Angelo police are investigating the discovery of a late model Nissan Altima found nearly submerged in the Concho River early Saturday morning.

According to SAPD Sgt. Matt Baldwin, a City of San Angelo Parks Department employee reported the discovery at around 7 a.m. Saturday. The report was of a car mostly submerged in the river near the W. Beauregard bridge.

The fire department responded for a possible rescue. It was no known if anyone was inside the car. After checking the vehicle, no one was found inside. Home Motors arrived and conducted another check and didn’t find anyone inside the car, either.

“Looking at the scene, it’s fairly obvious that a car, likely this car, crashed into a portion of this bridge (the Beauregard bridge) recently, and then proceeded on a short distance along Veterans Memorial Dr., jumped a curb, across the running path, and made its way into the river. The car probably floated a little further down until it took on enough water to sink and ground itself where we found it this morning,” Baldwin said.

Baldwin said they have located a couple of people who claim to have been in the vehicle. Police are interviewing them. Until police determine the exact circumstances of this crash, it is being investigated as a hit-and-run crash.

Baldwin said the hit-and-run might be cleared up once police determine more details of how the Nissan went into the river.

This isn't the first time police have investigated a discovered crashed car on a weekend morning. See these stories:

Do people think these vehicles will not turn up and can be traced back to them. Amazing how people think. Or don't think at all! Responsible people just don't walk off from their vehicles regardless of condition or situation.

It's a good bet that the owner of the vehicle didn't even know their Altima was in the river until after the fact.
