2-Year-Old Girl Dies in Sunday Morning Crash

MASON COUNTY, TX – At approximately 7:30 a.m. Sunday morning, a 2-year-old female died in a single motor vehicle crash and three other individuals, including an 8-month-old child, suffered injury on State Highway 29, 8 miles west of Mason.

According to a Department of Public Safety press release, Sgt. Justin Baker stated that a 2007 F-150 pickup truck was traveling eastbound on State Highway 29 when it veered right off the roadway. The driver, 19-year-old Christopher Ryan Sereno, then overcorrected, went across the roadway and entered the north barrow ditch. The car entered into a left side skid and began to roll onto its left side. The car then continued to roll across the roadway and came to a rest upright in the south barrow ditch facing southeast.

The front right passenger, Sue Docota Duley, 20, and the right back passenger, the 2-year-old passenger, were both ejected from the vehicle.

Sereno, whose driver’s license indicated that he’s from Fort Carson, Colorado was transported to Shannon Medical Center for incapacitating injuries. It is unknown if he was wearing his seat belt. Duley’s driver's license indicated that she was a resident of Welches, Oregon. She was also transported to Shannon Medical Center for incapacitating injuries. It is unknown if she was wearing her seat belt.

The third passenger, an 8-month-old male, was transported to University/San Antonio, Texas with non-incapacitating injuries. At the time of the crash, it was noted that he was in stable condition. Sgt. Biddle said, "The 8-month-old was probably secured in a child safety seat."

The 2-year-old female was pronounced dead by Judge Bearden. She was not wearing her seat belt.

The posted speed limit at the location of the crash was 70 mph. The weather condition was clear and the road conditions were dry at the time of the crash.

Texas Trooper Kaitlyn Moseley, of DPS Brady, Trooper Kody Eckert, of DPS Mason, and Trooper Jorden Dupree, of DPS Menard, were all on scene. Officers from the Mason County Sheriff’s Office were also dispatched to the scene.
