The Hitchhiking Pedestrian Dies from Injuries in Early Morning Crash

This morning, San Angelo LIVE! reported on the hitchhiking pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle on North U.S. 67 and transported to Shannon Medical Center. This afternoon, the pedestrian, Michael Earl Pullin, 57, succumbed to his injuries sustained in the crash, said Sgt. Solsbery, public information officer for the San Angelo Police Department.

Originally, at 6:40 a.m. this morning, SAPD officials responded to a crash in the 4200 block of N. U.S. 67 involving a white 2013 Ford F-250 and Pullin. Officer Ed Hunger with the Traffic Division investigated the crash.

During that investigation, Hunger learned 69-year-old Lloyd Beesley, the driver of the Ford pickup, was traveling from San Angelo to Miles. Pullin was walking in the center of the outside lane and in the same direction; however, Beesley said he did not see the pedestrian until he was close to him.

“Beesley was unable to avoid colliding with Pullin,” Solsbery said. “Beesley stated it appeared Pullin was attempting to hitchhike.”

At the time, Pullin was transported to Shannon for treatment of unknown injuries. While at Shannon, medical staff determined the man had sustained serious internal injuries. Pullin succumbed to those injuries at 9:04 a.m. He was pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace J.P. McGuire.

As a result of the investigation, it was determined Pullin failed to yield the right of way to the vehicle. Hunger previously said the man would face a citation. No other citations were issued in this case.

Solsbery said the investigation is ongoing.
