At approximately 7:15 a.m. this morning, Officer Ed Hunger said an older man was crossing the street from the south walk to the north on Avenue Q. At the same time, the driver of the red Ford Explorer was traveling westbound on Avenue Q, but failed to yield and hit him. Instead of stopping, the driver kept traveling straight on Knickerbocker Road.

Hunger stated two witnesses did see the events that took place, and the gentleman hit was transported to Shannon Medical Center.

“We don’t know the extent of his injuries yet,” said Hunger.

The officer did say, however, that the man was talking and his injuries did not appear to be life threatening, but because of his age, officials wanted to take precautions.

Hunger said this investigation is ongoing, and more information will be released when available.

Thank you for a map that shows where the incident happened and is easily readable with enough landmarks to help.

This is one of the most dangerous intersections in the world , it is a miracle that more people have not been injured there . We cannot afford another crosswalk although it is badly needed , maybe some better lights , like the ones at the Mc Donalds on north bryant . It wouldn't hurt to lower the speed limit either , some of those big rigs are flooring it when they see the green light on as they approach the intersection .
