Back in 2008, the Catholic church came up with 7 new sins for adherents to agonize over. They are:
1. “Bioethical” violations such as birth control
2. “Morally dubious” experiments such as stem cell research
3. Drug abuse
4. Polluting the environment
5. Contributing to widening divide between rich and poor
6. Excessive wealth
7. Creating poverty
I am, personally, unclear as to whether penance for these sins would involve traditional Catholic penance, gnawing, debilitating guilt, or simply monetary compensation — as was the preferred method for ye warlords of olde.
