At Least One Fatality in U.S. 67 Crash Involving 18-Wheeler Friday Morning

No matter who's fault this was this is another sad situation that could've been avoided. My thoughts are with both victims of the incident.

I have friends who drive that road every day going to work and even though the speed limit was dropped back down, they say it hasn't changed a bit. People still driving 90 coming right up peoples butts and flying around cars like they don't care. I hope they can figure something out as all the oil in the world is not worth the lives we are losing.

I don't think the 5mph speed limit change will affect anything. I do think passing lanes are SO important because people do speed, and are impatient, and I think having these opportunities to pass are crucial to preventing accidents. NO ONE wants to be stuck behind a line of 18 wheelers. Especially when it means it will take longer to get anywhere. And BS for the "careful" big rig drivers. Have you seen the sand cans who do 70 and 75 on Loop 306 in rush hour traffic? How about the idiots who pull U-turns in the middle of curves and kill other drivers? It's an open road, and we're all fair game to becoming a victim - whether it's our own fault or the fault of someone else.

JD gets it. I drive this highway sometimes 4 round trips a day and the problem is traffic flow. You have groups of people doing the speed limit that end up behind a truck going 55 or 60, instant traffic jam. Everyone has somewhere to be and people get frustrated. As for careful truck drivers, ha. There are good and bad just like the rest of the drivers.

I know that making it a 4 lane would make a HUGE difference. I agree with JD, JP, others & commen sense itself...having a passing lane for people to be able to maintain the speed limit would help tremendously. You will always have idiots and unsafe drivers anywhere. I know if you can allow someone to pass you or you pass them the flow of traffic will greatly improve. San Angelo and the surrounding towns have grown so much WAY BEFORE our area has been blessed with all the higher pay, more jobs created, more $ spent In San Angelo and more tax revenue coming in due to the oil field. I am soo tired of all the hatred, blaming the oil field for the wrecks. This road and others needed to be made 4 lanes. We have more tax dollars, FIX THE ROADS!! As far as the "more trucks/vehicles on the roads...not all are oil field!! A growing town ='s more goods delivered, more district managers & etc coming to visit to start with. Visitors for special events, people coming here for vacations, see family....San Angelo/surrounding areas are benefiting from their $. Put some of that $ for our benefits....a safer road for all, includingthe emergency vehicles, Sheriffs, ambulances, fire departments, highway patrols, volenteers and people in emergency situations. Again commen sense. I know anytime improvements are being made it makes it dangerous but, our U.S. history shows that when things needed quick as in wars...hugh war ships were made and everything needed to stock them were made at record speed, a few days. Well, to me this road is an emergency, it should be treated as such, fixed, widened...at record speed for you, your kids, grandkids, friends. Tragedies happen whether being a blown tire or whatever. It effects someone we know, love and care about from a friend to our emergency personnel. PLEASE, widen it! Ok, as you know my grammer, punctuation, spelling and etc is far from perfect. But...here you have it. Make fun and have a hayday with but, you know what I wrote is true. Prayers for God's protection for all that travel these roads. PEACE!
