There was at least one fatality in a crash on U.S. 67 south early this morning. The crash happened near Metcalf Road, near the Tom-Green-Irion County line.
The crash involves a Ford Mustang and an 18-wheeler. The Mustang departed the prepared surface towards the southeast of the roadway. It was nestled in between Mesquite trees and next to the Texas Pacifico railroad tracks. The Mesquite trees had to be cut to allow first responders to get to it.
An occupant of the Mustang is believed to have died.
A Justice of the Peace is inbound.
Tending to the scene are the Dove Creek VFD, Irion County VFD, DPS, Irion County Sheriff, and Tom Green County Sheriff.
Traffic is moving through the crash scene, albeit slowly.
Update 8:14 a.m.
We cannot get close to where the vehicles involved in the crash are. However, witnesses say that the Mustang is lodged underneath a tractor trailer pulling a semi-trailer water tank. The grill from the Mustang indicates that it was a late model Ford Mustang.
