GARDENDALE, TX— An Ector County family lost nearly 120 chicken after two dogs attacked the majority of their chickens. The Nordman family kept the chickens for meat, eggs, and some were pets to the family’s 12-year-old son.
According to CBS7, the family awoke on Thursday morning to find “bodies of chickens strewn across a back yard, many still in their pens and others dotting spots across the grass.”
According to the owner Danny Nordman, the way the chickens were killed and littered across the property indicates the work of a dog and not a predator.
“A dog will get it and just shake it until it stops moving,” said Mr. Nordman. “Then once it stops moving it’s not as fun. So, pick up another one, shake it.”
Norman’s wife Sabrina explained a wild animal who attacks chickens tends to take the animal to eat it.
“A wild animal just comes and takes something and takes off and eats it,” Mrs. Nordman said. “When a dog comes and kills they just leave bodies everywhere because it’s just for fun.”
One of the dogs was captured on video and Animal Control was able to locate the dogs’ owner. The owner surrendered the animals and they were taken to the Odessa Animal Shelter where they will decide if they can be adopted.
In Ector County dogs with tags are allowed to roam free as long as they are not a nuisance to the community. The dogs in question had no tags and have a history of getting loose.

That dog or dogs... will have to be euthanized ... which is a shame for the owner of the dog ( or dogs )! Once a dog ... even a domestic dog ... gets even a little taste of that chicken blood ... he or they will kill again and again! Personally... I am a dog person... but I wouldn't put up with a dog I owned that started killing chickens or any thing else. I would be saddened if a dog I owned had to be euthanized... but it has to be done !
Side note: I will probably get some "backlass" from some dog lovers out there that read this but... I speak the truth on this subject! :-P

PermalinkWhy wasn't the Texas State Guard called out in proper hazmat suits to prevent this? When chickens aren't safe, meals aren't safe, and when meals aren't safe, no one is safe.
