Flash Flood Watch for the Concho Valley Through Thursday

 

SAN ANGELO, TX -- In what is shaping up to be the wettest week of the year in west Texas a flash flood watch continues through Thursday. 

Streets in San Angelo are experiencing flooding again Wednesday morning as light to moderate rain continues to fall. 

According to the National Weather Service office in San Angelo, the Flash Flood Watch continues for Brown, Callahan, Coke, Coleman, Concho, Crockett, Irion, Kimble, Mason, McCulloch, Menard, Runnels, San Saba, Schleicher, Shackelford, Sutton, Taylor, and Tom Green counties through Thursday evening.

Rainfall amounts of one to three inches will be common with local amounts over four inches possible.

High rainfall amounts, along with saturated soils, will produce rapid runoff and low water crossings and city streets may flood quickly. Creeks and streams may fill with swiftly flowing water.

In addition, there is a flood advisory until mid-morning, At 6:50 a.m doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms.

This will cause some street flooding in San Angelo and Abilene urban and small stream flooding in the advisory area.

Some locations that will experience flooding include Abilene, San Angelo, Ballinger, Winters, Robert Lee, Mertzon, Blackwell, Christoval, Ozona, Maverick, Wylie, Nolan, Merkel, Tye, Bronte, Miles, Tuscola, Buffalo Gap, Trent and Lawn.

This includes the following low water crossings intersections along Buttonwillow Parkway... Southwest Blvd and Loop 306... Butternut Underpass... Intersections along Sammons Street... Jackson From Knickerbocker to South Bryant... College Hills and Millbrook... Texas Avenue at Arnold Boulevard... Howard and Webster... Curry Lane from Clack Street to Catclaw Drive and FM 3308 crossing Draw. Do not drive through these low water crossings or any other low water crossing with water flowing across the roadway.

There is an 80 percent chance of rain today and a 70 percent chance through Thursday night.
