Graffiti Vandals Attack Lake View High

SAN ANGELO, TX — Overnight, what has been described to us by a witness as racial slurs were painted on the Lake View High School building, 900 E. 43rd St., in multiple locations. As of 3 p.m. today, school district maintenance personnel have covered the graffiti with paint.

The vandalism was quite extensive, covering large swaths of Lake View’s exterior.

In 1998, a fire gutted two-thirds of the older Lake View High building. The structure was replaced a few years later making Lake View High the newest of San Angelo’s two high schools.

In 2014, a graffiti vandal spray-painted Central High School. San Angelo police soon found the 19-year-old who did it. He pleaded guilty in February 2015 after getting arrested and was offered five years of probation, to run concurrently, for the graffiti and possession of meth by 51st DA Allison Palmer. Jeremiah Mendez Sosa couldn’t stay clean on probation. His probation of revoked in July 2015 and he was sentenced to 300 days in prison and ordered to pay $648.11 in restitution.

Vandalizing a public building like Lake View High is usually charged as graffiti-worship burial/public monument/school and is a state jail felony, punishable with six months to two years in the state pen and a fine not to exceed $10,000.
