SAN ANGELO, TX - Just before 10 a.m., San Angelo Police dispatched to the Walmart Neighborhood Market, 1852 Sherwood Way, for a theft in progress.
Officer Schneider said when he arrived at the scene, both employees and shoppers pointed out the suspect to him as he pulled into the parking lot.
"I activated my lights, and I told him, 'Come back here!" said Officer Schneider. He added that when he approached the suspect, the man turned around, "squared up to" the officer and told him he "was fixin' to get knocked out."
Schneider added, "I kept walking towards him, and, at that point, he turned around and ran. He ran back into the parking lot."
The officer gave chase, and a man in a military uniform assisted. Officer Schneider said the man was a military police officer.
"Thank you to him for assisting with this," he added. "I took [the suspect] into custody without any further damage."
Schneider noted that the man stole $5 worth of candy, walked out of Walmart, and turned around to go back into the store.
"They closed and locked the doors," he stated. "He kicked the doors to go back in. He's going to jail for the theft; he's going for criminal mischief to the doors, and for the evading."
