Update Oct. 31 @ 4:29 p.m.
SAPD Officer Brian Bylsma said officers were dispatched to the crash at the intersection of E 19th St. and N. Oakes. They learned a motorcyclist was involved.
Bylsma said, "Upon arrival, we discovered that a motorcyclist was westbound on 19th St, and there was a 2005 Honda CR-V that was southbound on N. Oakes. The Honda stopped at the stop sign. She said that she looked both ways, proceeded out into the intersection and never saw the motorcyclist."
A witness told Officer Bylsma the motorcyclist was in the right lane, heading westbound when it collided with the back driver's rear quarter panel of the Honda.
Officer Bylsma said there was one occupant in the Honda, and she stated she wasn't hurt. However, the motorcyclist was transported to Shannon Medical Center for treatment with non-incapacitating injuries.
"I still have to talk to him," said Officer Bylsma.
He added that he has to finish the investigation with the motorcyclist, but it appears the driver of the Honda will get a citation for failure to yield the right of way at a stop sign.
There was also no helmet at the scene, so it's unclear whether the motorcyclist wore one at the time of the crash.

PermalinkSadly, this article was very inaccurate, as it reported non-incapacitating injuries. It never followed up with man's name, or his condition. His name was Gary Elliot, and he was taken off of live support today. I didn't know Gary, but my heart and prayers go out to him, his family, and his friends. Rest in peace brother rider. Those of you who drive cars and trucks, please remember how easy it is to change lives forever, with one instance of distracted driving.
