SAN ANGELO, TX - Officer Tracy Gonzalez, public information officer for the San Angelo Police Department, said at approximately 1:53 p.m., officers were dispatched to approximately the 5100 block of North Bryant Blvd. for the report of a head-on major crash between two vehicles with entrapment.
Gonzalez said the vehicles involved were a white GMC Yukon and a white Ford F-150, years unknown.
“Both drivers were deceased when we arrived,” said Gonzalez. “There were no passengers in either vehicle.”
A preliminary investigation shows that the driver of the Yukon was driving at a high rate of speed southbound in the northbound lane of traffic. Hence, the Yukon collided head-on with the pickup.
“We’ve had several reports that the driver of the Yukon has been driving in that manner since approximately the Grape Creek area, at a high rate of speed in the wrong lane of traffic,” explained Gonzalez.
Due to the nature of this incident, officials are not considering this a “standard” crash or accident, said Gonzalez.
“We did call CID out to the scene, and they are working the event as well,” noted Gonzalez.
She said officials will not be able to identify the names of the drivers of either vehicle at this time; it’s too early. Once they do identify the drivers, they will be notifying next of kin.
However, she did say the driver of the Yukon was a female in her 30s, and the driver of the pickup appears to be in his 50s, said Gonzalez.
“Because entrapment was involved, it’s probably going to take a long time [to investigate] at this scene,” added Gonzalez.
She said there she has no estimation how long traffic will be diverted in the area, so officials ask drivers to avoid the area and find alternate ways to get where they’re going.
Police will not speculate on why the driver of the Yukon drove as she did. They will provide more accurate information when available.
SAPD Traffic Division will be handling the traffic and criminal investigation of this crash; however, “this was a multi-agency response,” said Gonzalez.
She said members from DPS, TGCSO, SAPD and SAFD were on scene working the event. The other agencies will assist in collaborating information.

Update @ 7 p.m.
In a press release this evening, the San Angelo Police Department stated officials are still investigating the two-vehicle fatality crash that occurred this afternoon near the city limits on U.S. Highway 87 North.
Officer Tracy Gonzalez reiterated some of the previous details mentioned, and said the driver of the Yukon, a 42-year-old female, and the driver of the F150, a 61-year-old male were both pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace, Judge Eddie Howard.
"Traffic Investigators determined the woman operating the Yukon was traveling southbound in the northbound lane at a high rate of speed when she collided head-on with the pickup that was traveling northbound," said Gonzalez." Investigators received several witness accounts about the Yukon speeding into oncoming traffic towards San Angelo from the Grape Creek Area. It was also reported that the driver of a third vehicle collided with a nearby guardrail to avoid colliding with the Yukon."
Gonzalez also said law enforcement officials with the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office provided invaluable support at the crash scene and traffic was diverted for several hours after the crash. The Department’s Criminal Investigations Division also responded to conduct a follow up investigation due to the circumstances surrounding the moments leading up to the crash.
The names of the victims are not being released at this time, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Sending prayers out for the family and friends of the drivers. I heard the sirens but never dreamed this was the cause of them.

PermalinkI'm trying my very hardest not to hate. But Mr Hoffman (Bobby Jack) was my husband, the love of my life. He left 3 daughters who he cherished and 3 grand babies that were the light of his life. No one knows the devastation this has brought to our family. All we know is that he was stolen from us. I am so mad that we were robbed but I am also so grateful that we all knew how much we loved each other. We had the marriage that you read about in fairy tale books or that you watch on chick flicks. Cherish those you love and let them know every single second home w much you do love them.
Like I said, I do not hate the lady who stole him...but she committed a crime and robbed me of my greatest blessing and yes the human in me is downright pissed. But I do not hate nor hold any animosity towards her family. I pray too that they find peace and comfort.
Sincerely,
Glenda Hoffman
