Yesterday, San Angelo Police arrested a 24-year-old San Angelo man, Justin Westerman, after he was caught sleeping in a vehicle that did not belong to him.
Officer Tracy Gonzalez, public information officer for SAPD, said, just after 8:00 a.m., officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1200 block of W. Harris Avenue for the report of an unwanted subject.
“Upon arrival, officers spoke with a woman who said she found a man whom she did not know asleep in her vehicle,” said Gonzalez.
Gonzalez also said officers observed Westerman asleep in the driver’s seat. He had a backpack and a bag of Goldfish Crackers in his lap.
“Officers woke Westerman up and detained him during a brief investigation, which showed Westerman was in possession of items belonging to the woman as well as a gun that is believed to have been stolen from another nearby burglary,” added Gonzalez.
Police placed Westerman under arrest for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon after a records check revealed he had a prior felony conviction.
Gonzalez said the investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be filed pending the outcome of the investigation.
Including Westerman, there were 58 people booked into the Tom Green County Jail since our last report. Out of those 58, 23 people were booked on new complaints, three on new complaints and warrants, and 32 on warrants alone.
