Louann Hines Harvey

03/18/2021 - 09:44 , by TKing09

On March 16, 2021, Louann Harvey passed away of pancreatic cancer. She entered into Heaven and was surrounded by loved ones who have promised to continue to honor her by living their lives to the fullest.

She was born on October 4, 1954, to Ed and Billye Hines in Levelland, Texas. She graduated from Lubbock Christian High School and then received her BSEd from Texas Tech University and her MEd from Angelo State University.

Louann is survived by her husband, Roy Joe Harvey; brother and sister-in-law Vic and Paula Hines of Lubbock; brother and sister-in-law Larry and Marybeth Hines of Horseshoe Bay; Sister-in-law and husband Gaye and Raymond Sewell of San Angelo; stepson David S. Cate; grandson, Nicholas (Nico) Cate; stepdaughter, Lana Humphreys and husband Kip and grandson Landon of San Angelo; nephew Bren Hines; special family members Sam and Joy Allen; and wonderful nieces and friends.

Louann was preceded in death by her parents; husband, David Lee Cate; and her niece Brandi Hines.

Louann was married to David Lee Cate, until his death in 2009. During this time, they were blessed to have David’s son, David Steven Cate (Dave), live with them. She loved them both and referred to Dave as her son. She is also survived by David’s brother and wife, Gene and Sharon Sherrod, and beautiful nieces Sarah, Becky, Christi, and Michelle.

David and Louann shared many years of laughter and love with dear friends, Rhonda and Barry Legg, and their daughter, Candice Legg. Louann loved Rhonda’s parents, Werner and Kaye Halfmann, and often referred to them as her second parents. She loved all the time spent at Turkey Bend with the Halfmann family.

Louann loved her awesome grandson, Nicholas (Nico) Cate. Nico was the light of her life. They shared so many wonderful times and laughs together. They were “best buds” and always had big hugs for each other. She loved the time they spent together especially when wrestling, buying Halloween costumes, playing basketball, putt putt and swimming. She especially enjoyed their Christmas in New York City.

Louann retired in 2011 after 36 years in education with the last 20 years spent at Region 15 Education Service Center where she met so many wonderful people from all over the state. She enjoyed working with counselors and administrators throughout Region 15. Through her work she was blessed with such wonderful friends and colleagues and experiences. Louann always felt a spiritual calling through her work in crisis response. This calling led her to begin the Grief Share ministry at the church she loved so much Sierra Vista United Methodist Church. And through that Grief Share ministry, she became part of a wonderful group of women who shared a special bond. And it was through this Grief Share ministry that God brought Louann and Roy Joe Harvey together.

In 2015, Louann married Roy Joe Harvey and together they lived what she always described as a fairy tale. They enjoyed traveling, golfing, spending time in their beautiful home and pool, and simply sharing life and love together. And in their short time together they lived and loved a lifetime, sharing so many wonderful memories including Italy, the Bahamas, and many other places within the US that they traveled. Yet her favorite place was always at their beautiful and peaceful home. Roy surprised her often with flowers and handwritten notes which she deeply cherished. He introduced Louann to many things including eating oysters and dove hunting which she enjoyed even if her aim wasn’t very good. They both understood how precious life is and she never took one minute for granted as they shared a beautiful, loving, and fun marriage. Roy was always right by her side protecting her, helping her and loving her. He had a special way to make her laugh even through the cancer treatments, the crazy emotions, the pain and the tears. The love they shared was so evident to all who were around them.

Louann was blessed to have so many wonderful “sisters” in her life. She so loved the laughter, the fun, and the tears shared with Debbie Louder, Becky Cooke, Marty Stultz, and Paula Owens. And she cherished her Emmaus Homeward bound group of Kayde Farquhar, Norma Green, Vanna Jones, and Donna Rogers.

Louann loved her Sierra Vista United Methodist Church. Although COVID and cancer got in the way, she enjoyed being a member of the Sanctuary Choir, the CCC Sunday School Class and the Tuesday Morning Ladies Bible Study. Louann treasured the friendship of many friends at Sierra Vista. She loved the hugs and the special feeling of love shared with her church family.

Louann treasured being a member of the CCC “Penguins” Sunday School Class who surrounded her and Roy with love, friendship, laughter, support and many prayers. She loved the Sunday lunch bunch and when quarantine issues hit, she and Roy looked forward to their ZOOM Dinner Party Group (Zoomguins).

She loved being a part of the choir when she could sing with them. And when she couldn’t, she would close her eyes and just listen to the beautiful voices and music. And in 2005 Louann was blessed to be a Lay Director on Emmaus Walk #1222 in 2005 and that was such a spiritual gift from God.

A private family burial will be held at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Sierra Vista Methodist Church on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at 12:30 PM. Special Thanks to all the wonderful nurses and staff in the oncology department at Shannon who became her friends adding in care and compassion as well as humor and laughter.

To all of her family and friends….”You are all so very precious to me. I will see you all again Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”

They loved having “Life Group” in their home, preparing Com¬munion weekly for their Freedom Fellowship Family, and ministering to couples that were hurting. His passion for helping others and his legacy of faith and restoration will continue for generations to come.
Our parting is not the end of relationship with Carrol, only an interrup¬tion. Our loved one is experiencing the joy of Christ’s presence in a place so wonderful that Christ called it “Paradise.” And one day, we are told in a magnificent reunion, Carrol and those who believe will be with the Lord forever. Therefore, encourage each other with these words!!”
