Kenneth Royce Scott

11/30/2020 - 23:11 , by TKing09

Kenneth Royce Scott of Bronte, Texas passed away on November 25, 2020 at the age of 82.  He coached high school football for two decades, was a successful entrepreneur for almost four decades, and had a story for every occasion.

Born on December 2, 1937 in Bronte, Texas to the late James Walter and Faye Irene (Mitchell) Scott, Ken survived polio at 12 years old.  He graduated from Bronte High School in 1955, where he excelled in sports and earned 23 letters.  Ken attended San Angelo College on basketball and football scholarships where he scored the very first touchdown in San Angelo Football Stadium.  He also attended Sul Ross State University on a football scholarship, graduating in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science and later earning a master’s degree.

In 1958 he married Loretta Shaw and together they had 2 children, Mickey Joe and Becky Jené.  They later divorced and Ken married Linda Carol Parsons Hinesly in 1983.

Ken started his career in Insurance in 1960 and worked his way up to Vice President at American Life and Health Insurance.  However, he found his passion as a Texas high school football coach.  Ken coached in Paducah, Marfa, Monahans, Snyder, Alpine, and Gatesville.  Ken was a proud member of the Texas High School Football Coaches Association and had the privilege of coaching at the Texas All-Stars Game.  Named West Texas Coach of the Year, his passion for teaching and football touched many a student, often resulting in life-long friendships.

Ken and Linda started Midessa Telephone Systems, Inc. in Midland, Texas on July 5, 1982.  Ken started in an empty office building, with a box and a phone making cold calls while Linda managed the office as a night job.  They both worked diligently to build and grow the company and for more than 20 years it earned the recognition as one of the top 100 Telecommunications Companies in the United States.

Throughout Ken’s life he had a dedication to golf.  He was a member of Alto Lakes, Mission Dorado, and Odessa Country Clubs.  He served as President of Permian Basin Open Professional Golf Tournament for 12 years.

He and Linda also loved to travel across America, Mexico, Canada, and Europe.

In his retirement, Ken moved back to his hometown of Bronte where he enjoyed life as a rancher.  Ken loved his eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.  He traveled near and far to watch them in sports, music, and encourage them to achieve their goals and pursue their passions.

Ken had a huge personality and was verbal in his beliefs.  Coming from meek beginnings, he knew the importance of hard work.  He encouraged his children, stepchildren, grandchildren, players, and employees to achieve their highest potential.  He will be greatly missed.

Ken is survived by his beloved wife Linda; son Mickey Scott and wife Kay of San Angelo, Texas; daughter Becky and husband Wendell Byrom of Gatesville, Texas; stepsons Brad Hinesly of San Antonio, Texas and Barrett Hinesly of Weatherford, Texas; stepdaughter Allison and husband Brian Creech of Frisco, Texas; grandchildren Krista and Kael Byrom, Sarah and Emily Scott, Trinity and Remington Hinesly, Alex and Sydney Creech; great-grandchildren McKenzie Coble, Kash and Kimber Latham; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers James Weaver, Joe Lee, Danny Ray, and sister Dorothy Faye Pruitt.

A visitation will be held from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at Shaffer Funeral Home in Bronte. Graveside service will be held at the Fairview Cemetery in Bronte, Texas on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ken’s name to:

• The March of Dimes, who helped to fund the vaccine to eliminate polio: (www.marchofdimes.org/mission/polio.aspx)

• The American Cancer Society: (https://www.cancerresearch.org).
