Loretta Louise Smith

02/05/2021 - 11:07 , by TKing09

Loretta Louise Smith was born on November 29, 1941, to Clamon and Mary (Haynie) Helms in Birmingham, AL. She passed to our eternal home due to complications of Alzheimer’s on January 31, 2021, free of pain and worry, to await the arrival of her family and friends. Waiting for her were her parents, her sister Carolyn and brother Johnny. She is survived by her husband Kenneth of San Angelo, her daughters Nona Riddle of Ft. Smith, AR, and Brenda Johnson of San Angelo, TX, her son Tommy Kirk and wife Brenda of Port Aransas, TX, her stepson, Kenny Smith and wife Gerie of Las Vegas, NV, six brothers and sisters, Billy Helms of Adamsville, AL, Judy Denard of Trinity, AL, Buddy Helms and wife Barbara of Birmingham, AL, Sarann Townson and husband OC of Holly Pond, AL, Don Helms and wife Glady’s of Pelham, AL, and Brenda Fields of Irvington, AL, two sisters-in-law, Jackie Anderson of Yakima, WA, and Bobbi Dixon of Onalaska, WA, nine grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
Loretta lived a rich and varied life, full of family, work, travel, hobbies, and recreation. She was married to Larry Kirk for 21 years, with whom she had three children, and Jack Walls for four years, before meeting Kenneth in 2005. She retired as a Supply Stock Fund Manager at Goodfellow Air Force Base on April 3, 2006, after 29 and one half years of Federal Civil Service. Loretta and Ken enjoyed traveling (many times in a RV), country/western dancing, garage sales and their precious Yorkies. Through good times and bad, they were together supporting each other. Loretta’s departure is just an interruption, to be resumed upon our reunion in Heaven.
A memorial service will be held at Harper Funeral Home at a later date.
The family request that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Loretta’s name.
The family would also like to thank the staff and employees of Brayden Park, Angels of San Angelo, and Kindred Hospice, in addition to many family and friends, for all their support during these trying times.
