Motorcyclist Killed While Attempting to Pass Car Outside Colorado City

MITCHELL COUNTY, TX — A 63-year-old Westbrook man was killed Tuesday after his motorcycle collided with a car he was trying to pass as it turned left on Interstate Highway Business 20, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The crash happened around 4:20 p.m. on March 25, just west of mile marker 346 in Mitchell County, where Colorado City is the county seat. DPS investigators said James Edward Wallace was riding a 2010 Honda Goldwing westbound behind a 2011 Volkswagen Golf. As the Volkswagen began to turn left, Wallace attempted to overtake it, resulting in a collision.

Wallace, who was not wearing a helmet, was taken to Mitchell County Hospital and pronounced deceased shortly after 7:50 p.m.

The driver of the Volkswagen, 72-year-old John Kenneth Kendrick of Colorado City, was uninjured. He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The posted speed limit in the area was 55 mph. Conditions were clear and dry, DPS said.
