SAN ANGELO, TX— One of the suspects involved in a murder in San Angelo is set to take a plea deal.
Joshua Tyler Garcia, 22, of Lubbock is set to take a plea deal for capital murder for his involvement in the shooting death of Daniel Chandler.
According to the San Angelo Police Department, officers were dispatched to the Inn of the Conchos at 2021 North Bryant Boulevard regarding a shooting. When officers arrived, they found that the 41-year-old Chandler had been shot and killed at the hotel.
Cody Salazar was arrested for his role in the shooting, and Garcia was arrested later as a second suspect. Authorities say that Garcia turned himself in to the Lubbock County Jail for an unrelated felony warrant of aggravated assault of a public servant.
In that case, Garcia was allegedly a passenger in the vehicle and fired multiple shots at the officer’s patrol unit.
On July 9, 2021, investigators with the SAPD’s Criminal Investigation Division obtained a murder warrant for Garcia in connection to the death of Chandler.
Garcia was jailed in San Angelo and charged with capital murder on Dec. 29, 2023. He has been an inmate in the Tom Green County Jail since.
In exchange for a guilty plea, Garcia agreed to a sentence of life in prison with the possibility of parole in 30 years. This sentence will run concurrently with the charges out of Lubbock County. Garcia will also have to pay $8,826.17 in restitution.
The judge has not yet signed the plea deal.
