SAN ANGELO, TX — A San Angelo man accused of fatally shooting his sister’s boyfriend during a domestic disturbance last year has been indicted on a charge of capital murder and has since been released on bond, according to court and jail records.
Mason Joseph Taylor, 28, was indicted July 1, 2025, by a Tom Green County grand jury on one count of capital murder by terror threat or other felony, one count of murder, and one count of tampering with physical evidence. The indictment alleges Taylor shot and killed Hunter Seth Joyner, 23, on Oct. 1, 2024, during the course of committing or attempting to commit burglary of a habitation, and later tried to conceal a firearm to impair the investigation.
Taylor was booked into the Tom Green County Jail on July 7, 2025, and released the same day on surety bonds totaling $375,000, with $125,000 set for each charge, according to jail records.
Joyner was found inside a residence on the 1500 block of South David Street with multiple gunshot wounds and later died at Shannon Medical Center.
An affidavit filed in the case said the shooting followed a domestic incident between Joyner and Taylor’s sister, Taylor Stewart, two days earlier. Investigators reported discovering blood and spent bullet casings inside the home, and witnesses described Taylor leaving the scene armed with a gun.
Dana Heather Stewart, Taylor’s mother, was also arrested in October 2024 and charged with tampering with a witness. Court documents allege she instructed her daughter to give false statements to police about the circumstances of the shooting.
The case remains pending in the 119th District Court.
