Brownwood Police Officer Wounded, Suspect Killed in Shootout

BROWNWOOD, TX — A Brownwood police officer was wounded early Tuesday during a shootout that left a 59-year-old man dead.

The officer was listed in good condition at a local hospital and was expected to undergo surgery.

The suspect, Holly Edward Oliver, 59, was pronounced dead after being transported to the hospital.

According to the Brownwood Police Department, the incident began about 11:50 p.m. Monday when the police received a report of shots fired.

The caller reported her husband was in the front yard, out of control and shooting a gun.

Oliver then left the residence in a pickup and was located parked at the end of a street shortly after midnight by officers.

Before officers could approach him, Oliver reportedly pulled up beside him and began shooting.

Officers said they took cover and returned fire. Oliver’s truck eventually came to a stop in the middle of an intersection.

The Texas Rangers are investigating the case. Assistance was provided by the Brown County Sheriff’s Office, Early Police Department and troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety.
