Angelo State Men’s Basketball Locks Down Lubbock Christian

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Angelo State men’s basketball team stepped up with two impressive wins this week, capped by a 65-55 victory Saturday at home over Lubbock Christian.

The Rams had suffered back-to-back losses heading into the week, and they were about to face two of the better teams in the Lone Star Conference.

ASU responded with a 72-68 win Thursday over Midwestern State, followed by Saturday’s win, which puts them one game out of first place in the LSC’s West Division.

The Rams led by 10 points at halftime, and that lead dwindled to just one point at 44-43 with 9:43 remaining.

ASU closed strong from there, ending the game on a 21-12 run.

The Rams held LCU to a season-low with 55 points, which is 25 points below their 80-point average.

Shemar Smith led ASU with 17 points, while Sterling Gaston-Chapman had 14 and Kaden Evans had 11.

ASU (11-6 overall, 7-4 LSC) will play again at 7:30 p.m. Thursday against St. Mary’s in San Antonio. LCU (12-6, 7-3) will play its next game at the same time at home against Oklahoma Christian.
