Winter Trout Stocking to Begin in San Angelo

SAN ANGELO, TX - The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has announced plans to stock over 25,000 rainbow trout across 14 locations in West Texas, including several sites in San Angelo, starting this winter.

The 2024-2025 stocking schedule will continue into early next year.

In San Angelo, Oakes Street and Foster Park are among the designated locations, with scheduled stocking dates beginning on Nov. 27 for Oakes Street and Dec. 10 for Foster Park. TPWD will stock these sites multiple times through February, with Oakes Street receiving a total of 2,656 trout and Foster Park getting 1,600. Additionally, Javalina Draw at San Angelo State Park will be stocked with 500 rainbow trout across two dates in December and January.

Elsewhere, notable stocking sites include Comanche Trails in Big Spring, receiving 4,000 trout over two dates, and Ascarate Park in El Paso, which will be stocked with 6,000 trout across four dates through early March.

The stocking schedule depends on adequate water quality and quantity, as TPWD aims to ensure favorable conditions for the fish. With locations spread across the region from Marathon to Andrews, anglers can expect varied dates and quantities at each site.

For a complete list of stocking dates and sites, anglers are encouraged to check with TPWD for updates and details on stocking totals.
