SAN ANGELO, TX — San Angelo set a new daily record for the warmest overnight low temperature Tuesday morning as unusually warm conditions continue across the Concho Valley ahead of Christmas, according to the National Weather Service.
The previous record minimum high temperature — the warmest overnight low — was 51 degrees, set in 2023. That record was broken early Tuesday when San Angelo recorded an overnight low of 57 degrees, six degrees warmer than the previous mark.
Meteorologists said the warmth is especially notable for late December, when average daytime highs are typically in the upper 50s. The elevated overnight lows and well-above-normal daytime highs underscore how anomalous the current weather pattern is for this time of year, the NWS stated.
The unseasonably warm conditions are expected to persist through Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Forecasts show highs ranging from the mid-70s to lower 80s, roughly 20 degrees above normal, with overnight lows remaining in the mid- to upper 50s and near 60 degrees.
Christmas Eve is expected to be partly cloudy with a south breeze, with lows in the mid-50s to near 60 and highs in the mid-70s to lower 80s. Similar conditions are forecast for Christmas Day, with highs reaching the mid-70s to near 80 and overnight lows staying well above seasonal averages.
Forecasters said temperatures across much of the region are likely to remain well above normal through the end of the week, with additional daily record highs or record warm lows possible on several days.
