Third Motorcycle Fatality of 2024 in Abilene as Crash Claims Local Man’s Life

ABILENE, TX — A 37-year-old Abilene man died following a motorcycle crash on Buffalo Gap Road on Sunday afternoon, marking the third motorcycle fatality in Abilene this year.

Abilene police responded around 2:10 p.m. on Nov. 10 to a collision in the 4400 block of Buffalo Gap Road involving a 2007 Harley Davidson Softail and a 2013 Ford Edge. Police determined the Ford Edge, driven by a 71-year-old woman, was heading north on Buffalo Gap Road and attempted a left turn into a private driveway. The motorcycle, traveling south, collided with the vehicle.

The motorcyclist, identified as Joshua Harness, sustained critical injuries and was transported to Hendrick Medical Center before being care-flighted to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth. He succumbed to his injuries early on Nov. 11. Notifications to his family have been made.

Police stated that intoxication does not appear to be a factor in the crash, though an investigation by the APD Traffic Division is ongoing.

Abilene police urge motorcyclists to exercise safety precautions, including wearing helmets, bright reflective clothing, and using daytime headlights.
