According to court documents, San Angelo police were dispatched to the 1500 block of South David Street regarding a shooting victim just after 8 a.m. Oct. 1, 2024. Once officers arrived, they located the victim, 23-year-old Hunter Seth Joyner, in a bedroom of the residence suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the torso and leg.

After police secured the scene, there were two subjects at the residence, the victim’s girlfriend and her mother. It was learned that Joyner and his girlfriend had been involved in a domestic dispute on Sept. 30, 2024. The girlfriend spoke to her brother, Mason Taylor, on the phone after the dispute, and she said he sounded very upset.

Taylor, along with the victim’s girlfriend and her mother, formulated a plan to go to the residence on Oct. 1, 2024, and possibly start the eviction process on Joyner.

In the early morning of Oct. 1, the two women decided it was best if Taylor did not accompany them to the house, and they tried to arrive before Taylor showing up.

The two women arrived at the residence and unlocked the front door. They then saw Taylor walking towards the back of the residence. He had a handgun pointed toward the ground. The victim’s girlfriend asked Taylor repeatedly what he did, but he would not respond.

The victim’s girlfriend then saw Taylor’s girlfriend, who appeared to be in shock. Both Taylor and his girlfriend left prior to San Angelo police arriving on the scene.

The victim’s girlfriend then walked into the bedroom and found Joyner unresponsive on the bed with at least one gunshot wound to the chest. Both her and her mother pulled him from the bed and attempted to provide medical care and called 911.

Joyner was transported to Shannon Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.

At the residence, a detective said that it appeared Taylor had shot out the back glass door to enter the residence. Joyner was believed to have been in bed at the time of the shooting. Spent bullet cartridges were also found on the bed and at the foot of the bed.

Taylor was arrested on Oct. 1, 2024, and charged with murder. He is currently being held on $750,000 bond.
