SAN ANGELO, TX— Information regarding the stabbing suspect who barricaded himself inside a shed has been released.
Ricardo Rico, 48, of San Angelo, has been arrested for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
According to court documents, San Angelo police were called to the 1200 block of Howard Street regarding a stabbing victim.
An email was provided to the investigator that said the victim was sitting outside his residence when a Hispanic male, identified as Rico, approached him brandishing a large knife. Rico began to swing the knife around and stabbed the victim twice in the left leg.
The victim was transported to Shannon Medical Center for emergency treatment.
Rico fled the scene to a small apartment in the backyard of a residence of the 2100 block of Forest Park. He shut the door as San Angelo police attempted to make contact with him.
According to San Angelo Police Chief Travis Griffith, who gave a press conference regarding the situation, said that at around 4:47 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of Howard Street regarding a stabbing.
Officers located a 34-year-old victim who had sustained multiple stab wounds. The San Angelo Fire Department transported the victim to the hospital. The San Angelo Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division decided to activate the SWAT Team and the Crisis Negotiation Team.
Rico’s identity was obtained as was a warrant for his arrest. The San Angelo Police’s SWAT Team, Drone Team, and a K-9 unit were able to take Rico into custody. After multiple avenues were taken to place Rico in custody, chemical munitions were used.

Rico was booked into the Tom Green County Jail on September 14, 2024, and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. He currently has a bond of $50,000.
