SAN ANGELO, TX – San Angelo Police have released an official statement regarding a stabbing suspect that barricaded himself inside a shed.
According to San Angelo Police Sergeant John Bouligny, on September 14th just before 4:50 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of Howard Street in response to a reported stabbing.
Upon arrival officers discovered a 34-year-old male victim who had sustained stab wounds. The victim was promptly transported to an area hospital by the San Angelo Fire Department for medical treatment.
The suspect, identified Ricardo Rico, 48, was located at the scene but quickly barricaded himself in a small shed. He refused to comply with officers' commands to surrender and remained inside the shed.
In light of the severity of the situation, the Critical-Incident Commander activated the San Angelo Police Department's Critical Incident Teams (SWAT/CNT/Drone) to manage the incident. An arrest warrant was subsequently sought for Rico.
After the Arrest Warrant was issued and after he continued to refuse to surrender the SWAT Team deployed a limited amount of chemical munitions, after this deployment Rico surrendered to the San Angelo Police Department's SWAT Team and was taken into custody without further incident.
The investigation is still ongoing at this time, and there is currently no further information to release.
